This is wisful thinking into a whole new level, imo
90 is hard,  140...doesn´t even sounds serious to me

Come on Goodnightmoon.

2016 & 2017 will most likely be 19-20 million unit sold years (the peak for the PS4).

this year it sold like what? 17.4-17.7m?

Its at 35.9m+ units sold now.

Add 2016+2017 of 20million units sold = = = = > 35.9+20+20 => 75.9 million units by end of 2017.

You know the PS5 isnt going to be released until around 2019-2020.

PS4 is almost 100% sure to go over 100m, probably doing so before the PS5 even launches.

I think the OP is mostly on point for the first 6 years
Not after that though, it should decline more than that

I think next gen launches later than 2019. Personally I'm going with 120 million.

People that believe that the Ps4 will last just 5 years are naive (to say the least).

There are no longer lasting and more supported consoles than the Playstation Consoles. Fact.

I don't get why people think this will be a short generation. I think it will be at least as long as Gen 7. The tech just doesn't evolve as fast as in the past. CPUs a re pretty much stagnating and considerably faster GPU units are so damn expensive that they aren't interesting at all for a console. On top of that, you don't see as much difference as back in the day from more hardware power. The resolution might go up a little, the fps might go up a little, but that's pretty much it. If there was a new console in 2 or 3 years, we would be seeing Cross-Gen titles like there's no tomorrow, because every game could be easily ported to the last gen. With that happening, many many people will just stick to their PS4/X1, because why should they throw out another 400+ $ when the old console is doing just fine and is still getting all major games? It would be a pretty high risk for any manufacturer to release a console too early.

New consoles will arrive when they are needed and the most important thing for that are significantly faster APU units. They need to be at least 5 times faster, better yet would be factor between 8 and 10. An APU like that isn't even on the horizon yet and you sure as hell won't be seeing a manufacturer packing a dedicated GPU into a console. The price would be insane, same as the power usage. Not interesting for the mass market.

Moore's law is pretty much gone and that's why I think console generations will only get longer and longer from here on out. I don't expect a PS5 before 2020.

This.

I have been saying the exact same thing. And I think people just don't understand it. whenever I hear someone say "short gen" or "new consoles in 2018/2019".... I just say to myself they don't  know what they are talking about.

Even with an 8yr generation, the leap from the PS360 gen to the PS41 gen was nowhere near as big as that of the previous gen shift. And that will become more prrvailant with each passing gen thus reducing the need to have a new console.

I mean lets face it. Even with the best games PC has to offer, outside cleaner textures, higher rez and higher framerates; are they really that much better than the best we have on consoles today? If a top 5 list of best looking games is made I'm sure the PS4 will get into at least 2/3 slots. At the end of the day that's all it come down to.

The only real thing the next gen consoles will bring to the table is MAYBE everything we have now but in 4k/60fps..... (who are we kidding). This is what I think. The next gen consoles won't be here until they can efficiently put 4k capable hardware with room to spare in a $300-$400 box. If anyone thinks that can happen before 2018/2019?

Well.... I'll just say that person is delusional.

So you expect it to sell close to PS2 levels, even though not even the Wii did that?

The Wii fizzled out and died quickly. It didnt have the legs of PlayStation consoles.

Playstation consoles have the best legs among all consoles.

140 million! Pass me the same shit you're on!

It'll be lucky to reach Wii numbers.

I think it all depends on what happens next year.

If the PS4 has a big year as you predict with ~21 million without a significant price cut then i think LTD numbers has an outside chance of reaching your LTD numbers.

Based on last gen, we saw a sharp decrease in sales once the new platforms came out, so we are not seeing that slow gradual slow down in sales as we did in the PS2 era. So i think your year 4, 5 and 6 estimates are too positive. If Sony releases a PS5 similar to the PS4, in year 5 or 6 then we will see a sharp decrease in sales for PS4. Especially if PS5 has a decent launch price.
