I'm gonna have to do some research on games that you would have access to that I don't.

Also, out of curiosity, where do you live in Japan and what do you and your husband do?

I work at a major japanese games development studio and run my newly established indie studio in spare time,  tamron spends his days flying back and forth between usa and japan and china,  designing,  developing and releasing gaming hardware for both first and third party peripherals for all consoles.

Well, that explains your hardware knowledge!

I have a fair amount of free time in my evenings lately, I also have pretty much every console you can think of, and easy access to any game on said consoles, so im thinking of doing some lets plays, maybe cover some really obscure nobodys-ever-heard-of games, obviously in doing so olrder games would be more interesting as modern consoles kind of lack the diversity retro has.

so yeah, would like to hear anyones suggestions/ideas/etc on what to do, and solutions for streaming actual-console footage from retro handhelds.

I have the hardware to stream/record any input type from RF all the way to 60fps hdmi, ith the exception obviously, of retro handhelds that dont support tv out.

Will post a complete list of consoles and a shortlist of really obscure unknown games later today.

Those without any TV out, not even optional, aren't supposed to have any HW inside to do it, so I guess the only HW solutions would be either heavy HW modding or devising an external support as little awkward as possible for a microcamera aimed at the screen, and it would probably require some antiglare coating on the screen and also some appropriate lighting solution for those very old portables without backlight in their screen (it could be a job for your husband! Maybe he could even sell it. Or maybe not.  ).
I guess the most practical solution is emulation, but to give the portable feel it should be run on a portable, so something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP2X#Emulators

About obscure old game suggestions, many years ago I prepared an exam with a fellow engineering student that was the programmer of a very old C64 game, I Play 3D Tennis.

If it has a screen i can rig up video outputs, no exceptions.

maybe something gundam related but very unknown?

So you're ready and not scared to HW mod those ancient pieces of HW! Oh, well, for science!

Edit: Ooops! Just read now you already answered this to another person. You'll have to add a very low current, voltage driven output to avoid degrading the signal.
