Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo WiiU Revision? Peripheral? Xenoblade report mentions "further improvement"

Isn't that what Rockstar did with GTA V on X360? Reading data from disc and HDD simultaneously. I'd guess that if the Xbox360 could do it, Wii U can do it too (just a wild guess though). I think this is the first Wii U game to almost fill the whole disc, so that's probably the reason why it was never done before, assuming that it is possible.

It would be really cool if the Wii U uses this feature.

I wonder why the wiiu can not play blurays, it has the drive and stuff. Does it play dvds? I never tried.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Sounds like they're hinting at hard drive streaming, but as far as I know, no Wii U game has done this so far, to the point where I wasn't even sure it was possible.

I don't know if Wii U's hardware is actually wired for this though. They may have assumed they wouldn't need it, since HDD streaming on PS3/360 was mostly to compensate for their small RAM.

Yeah that's a good point. However, based on what it's been said in the OP it is safe to assume that there is definitely some sort of feature that we haven't seen yet. It could very well be HDD Streaming, something that serves the same purpose somehow or something entirely different. In any case, I wonder if it's some sort of secret sauce Nintendo's been saving to increase Wii U's performance as the gen moves on? Unlikely, but there could be a slight chance for it to be true.

The way it's worded is certainly interesting, I look forward to the future clarification he promises.

What i read is: You can install the game in the HDD for faster load times. Its something the PS3 used to do aswell and todays consoles do.

I think there is some mistranslation going on here

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

It's about cutting costs. to "legally" play bluray movies (in some countries ) you must pay licence fee for evry device to blu ray consortium.

It certainly sounds like he's talking about a partial install from disk.

I wonder if declining the install merely lengthens load times for cutscenes or if it also affects draw distance and pop-in.

Maybe you can stream from an SD card or USB, didn't Dragon Quest X on Wii do something like that?
