Forums - Gaming Discussion - Consoles now coming close to High End PC hardware? read this Witcher 3 report

I copied the most interesting stuff about hardware, sorry i am on a tablet so i cant quote etc.

http://www.gamepur.com/news/17793-witcher-3-dev-recommended-pc-specs-will-run-it-30fps-not-60fps-details.html

###

Q: PC recommended specs will be able to run the game on 30 or 60 frames per second?

Adam: I think, we'll stick with 30 FPS. We're not going to stop working on performance until the very end, it's crucial matter to us, there are different PCs with different specs. Programmers insisted on avoiding tricking the players by lowering predicted specs. As I mentioned before, It can only get better.

###

Additionally, Adam stated that PC specification/requirement for The Witcher 3 aren't exaggerated, although the team is still working on the optimization of the game. PC gamers will also be able to import saved state from previous game or take decision about their character's past. However, for Xbox One and PS4 players, only the latter option will be available.

In addition to this, Adam stated that PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One use the same build, textures and models of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and it looks identical on all platforms, although Xbox One version will be showed in 900p, scaled up to 1080p.

other info

  • Breast physics
  • USK 18 rating (W2 got 16). They think due to graphic finishing moves.
  • 260 designers worked on W3, compared to 5 in W2.
  • Save game import for PC only.
  • Can talk about important decisions from previous game with barber.
  • Played W3 on all 3 platforms. PC: i74790, ASRock Z97, 8 GB RAM, GTX 980 4 GB and a SSD.
  • Ultra setting still disabled. Not optimized yet. PC was set to high.
  • PC has better shaders, textures, more colorful and better AA compared to consoles.
  • Grass and similar detail pops in ~5m on consoles. Double that on PC.
  • PS4>X1. PS4 textures blurrier than PC high.
  • PS4 runs at 1080p/30FPS
  • XB1 runs at 900p/30FPS, slightly blurrier than PS4.
  • Still looks great on any platform.

I think it will be pretty interesting to see how PC cersions will look in the end. If its true you will need a gtx 770 which is pretty much considered a higher end graphicscard costing 250-300 bucks vs 350-400$ consoles. But if the game in the end performs at recomemded setting like console versions and if the versions pretty much look the same it would proof that consoles can come close to higher end PCs. And this is a PC devoloper, these guys are not ubisoft so keep that in mind.

Whats your opnion on that?

Please don't call 770 higher end.

Also it's not yet benched what kind of performance a 770 will get you on a PC. Are the console still close if a 770 delivers 50% more performance than the consoles?

And then there is the 290 which is cheaper and a good chunk more powerful than the 770. consoles will probably not even come close to the performance and the visuals of a 290 while being a lot more expensive.

Not really. High end PCs nowadays are moving away from 1080p to 2K or 4K unless the game is a mess. Also texture quality is only a part of the equation, which is already below the high settings. So unless you are in the "I can't see a difference between 720p and 1080p!" group, not really.

Its nvidias second highest graphicscard in the category where normal human beings can afford it. 50% more means 45 fps average its not enough and in fact if ps4 and x1 are locked we dont know how much they are performing it could be 35-40 fps but locked @30

If PCs keep evolving, consoles can't really get close to them. Technology nowadays grows exponentially, and if consoles are only one or two steps back in terms of hardware, the difference is power is only grow with time.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If you are looking for performance for money then you shouldn't look at Nvidia anyway. the 290 is cheaper and more powerful than the 770 and will run circles around anything the consoles will do. I expect double the performance at console graphics settings.

Not really it costs the same, and keep in mind thats only 1 component. The cpu costs another 300€

I don't think it's possible. PC hardware is getting better all the time and constantly being upgraded, and even the new PS4 and Xbox One, while powerful consoles, are still sort of far behind. Consoles don't have the benefit of being able to be upgraded all the time, you have to wait till the next one, and by the amount of time that console has been out PC has been upgrading still.

Just look at GTA V for example, that game is going to support 4K resolution on PC.

I could easily be wrong though, since I don't know about all the specs or anything that are in these consoles.

I dont think so, these consoles maybe wont reach 60fps but they will keep getting every game @30fps and 1080p in the ps4s case while pc specs will increase overtime. The devolopers will have to optimize because thats where the money is.

And the consoles still have some differences where devolopers can tweak like the unified memory which is equillant to a 7 gb graphicscards if the devolopers ever want to use it like this, and in the ps4s case it could be a gddr5 one. They also have no windows running taking memory and in the ps4s case this consoles has a 256mb arms cpu which runs the bakcground OS. So the ps4s cpu runs at full capacity for gaming while the xbox 1 has some eRam which can also be used.

Also i heard that an apu performance better dueto gpu and cpu being on one die which saves letancy and other issues. These are all things the pc is lacking and gives consoles extra performance beyond the x86 architecture. Just look at the ps3 and xbox 360, these consoles get games even today like alien isolation, evil within or destiny.
