Forums - Gaming Discussion - What and when was your first 'first day purchase?

Inspired by kingofwale, i present to you, the first day purchase thread! post the game (and date) of purchase together with the boxart of the game (to make it more colorful) and a nice story if you have one (talking about the specific day, number of people, events etc).

My first day purchase happens to be the greatest game of all time, it's no secret what that is:

It was a cold day in december, 2 weeks before christmas (11th december 1998). My mom took me to the city (back then i lived on the country side) and we went to the Discovery (game shop) where i ordered the game some time ago. When i arrived around 100 people were already waiting for the game, including (to my surprise) my 40 year old neighbour. We talked about the huge anticipation and stuff. It was a very long wait, i remember the truck that would have delivered the game had lots of delays, was stuck in the snow and who knows what more. And then the storage room went open, huge boxes with games in them were loaded off the truck, everyone ripped open the boxes like they were cavemen looking for food, got their copy and went to the checkout. When i went home, i immediately went to my N64, pulled the cartridge out that was already in, and put the nice grey with black cartridge in the slot. I started the game, together with goosebumps and an epic feeling was floating through my body, knowing i was playing the greatest game of all time.

Now it's your turn, share your epic stories.

Back when I was that young and played Atari/SNES/N64 I couldn't do first day purchases because I had to wait till the parents could take me somewhere to buy a game.

My first first day purchase was Raw 2 for Xbox.  I remembered I preordered it well in advance even though there wasn't a mad rush to get at it.  Then the day before it came out I went in to EB and asked when it'll be in and the guy said to show up at 10 am.  So I decided to skip my 10 am and go grab it, problem was that it wasn't in yet.  So I ran off late to class and came back afterwards and grabbed it and ran home.  A disappointingly mediocre game in the end.

My first, first day purchase was the PlayStation Portable.

^ This isn't my PSP, but it was exactly like this

I didn't go to EB Games to pick it up, my friend did, but I do remember the weather.  It was sunny outside, and i hadn't slept the night before.  It was March 24, 2005.  He got to my house around 11, and I played Metal Gear Ac!d all day, and watched Spider Man 2 on UMD.

I am a pretty patient person so my first day purchase happened more recently.

Nov.18 2006 10AM-  My friend and I arrive at Wal-Mart with our lawn chairs.  We find out that Wal-Mart is allowing all Wii waiter to sit and wait in the lawn and garden center.  I was glad because it was cold outside.  We get in line, four people are in front of us.  A manager has us sign our names to a list.  As long as we stay in the biulding our spots in line will be saved.

12PM-  We pass the time.  I play Sudoku puzzles and read the Bible.  My friend talks to the seventh guy in line about computer programming.

4PM-  I try to show my friend a cool chapter in the Bible, but he said "not now".  I say loudly so others could hear, "Are you ashamed of Christ?".

12PM-  There are 30 people in line but only 25 Wii's.  We are glad we got there early.  We enjoyed meeting the other people in line, it was a great experience.  We decide to wait in line for the next Nintendo console.  It is my turn to buy a Wii.  I buy Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princes, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and an extra Wii controller, or atleast I try to.  I give the cashier a check, the computers don't except it, it write another check, the computers don't except that check either.  I knew I had over $1000 in my checking account.  I was mad and sad.  I move out of line.  My friend begins to pay for for his Wii.  He had cash.  He got his Wii.  I am numb.  Suddenly someone I never meet before said that she would pay for my Wii.  I am revujenated.  The Cashier allowed me to buy a Wii because they still had my Wii and games and controller in a plastic bag.  There are grumblings in the back of the line.  She explains that her son noticed me earlier and that we go to the same church.  My church has 1500 members so I don't know how he would know for sure that I went to his church.  I think it helped that I was reading the Bible in line and that I said so others could hear "Are you ashamed of Christ?".  God's Word is true.  In Psalm 37:4 it says,"
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart."  The women and I walked out of the store and she told me that she would keep the Wii until after I pay her at church tomorrow morning.  That sound easy right, pay her at church the next morning?  If you want to hear that nightmare of a morning just ask and I will tell you.

Hm...no first day game purchases in store ever. I do most of my purchases online. The only thing I ever lined up for, up to 35 minutes worth of wait, is when Nintendo DS Lite first came out.

Currently loving my Wii x2, Xbox 360 Pro & Xbox 360 Arcade, and Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Limited "Cloud Black" 160GB PS3

GAMEFLY & GOOZEX FTW
