Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So Wii U sold almost 600k in US with Nintendo not trying hard...

No price cut, no smash bundle, not many ads on tv.

The Wi U looked to do even worse in the US 2014 holiday then 2013

all seemed lost when wii u was only up 10% yoy in november

and we all lost hope that it will be under its last year numbers due to Nintendo not trying.

But we were thy wrong.

It did 70-90k better than last year with only 2 games with no bundles and toy figures to help it.

This is a lot worse then with a system seller, a remake, pricecut, a very intersting limited edition bundle, and more ads on tv.

So I ask thee this.

What would Wii U have done sales wise november and december if it ad a pricut and smash bundle

post your ideas below.

No, it didn't, and that's not what people predicted.

Having Smash and Mario Kart alone is better than holiday 2013.

And somehow not having a Smash bundle stopped people that .... wanted Smash ... from buying Smash (and a WiiU)?

They need to post a profit this year so they did the right move not lowering the price.

Iwata really let his pride blind him last year. They put a lot of ads and some temporary pricecuts trying to sell the machine with basically, one game. They expended so much on a thing that was just not ready,a dn they end up been scared this year, when they actually had games. Seriously, they actually used a old UK comercial on Japan to sell MK8 this holiday. And, well, its probably the peak year of wiiu. At least on sales.

Even worse, they probably will miss their target for both 3DS and WiiU. Lets hope that amiibo manages to carry them over to their target financially speaking.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I believe there are stil just estimates from NPD for now, but it's somewhere between 550 and 600K which makes the VGC stuff relatively accurate.

I think if price is lower the wiiu could easily outsell the x1 @400$ price point.
