Forums - Sony - Will Sony price cut the PS4 next holiday?

Will Sony not reduce the PS4's price next holiday?

Yes, they will reduce it ... 62 61.39%

No, they're Sony, they d... 39 38.61%

As we all know, the XBOX One went through a variety of price slashes this year. First in June reducing the price to equal the PS4, then this holiday season, giving it a $50 advantage over PS4 and also including bundles. Even though XB1 never actually overtook PS4 worldwide weekly, and PS4 still has about 1m more sold in the US then XB1, Sony lost A LOT of ground this holiday due to Microsoft's price cuts and mass advertising. So do you guys think Sony will do a similar price slash, or will they rely on all their software to stay ahead of XB1?

Depends on theirs and competitions release line up, if sony only have uncharted and xbox have halo 5 and tomb raider in the holidays, a price cut is almost necessary.

Holidays 2015:

Xbox one Halo Bundle = $250 ( $200 Black Friday )

PS4 Uncharted 4 Bundle $350 ( $300 Black Friday )

Looking at the software line ups for Q1 2015, its going to be one way traffic anyway in terms of sales. Whatever "ground" they lost in November and December will be null and void by March/April I think. Sony wont reduce the price of the Ps4 for a while yet. Why would they? They are selling, worldwide, at a ratio of over 1.5/1 whilst not really doing anything. Whilst it continues to outsell the Xbox worldwide, they won't do a thing. They will just sit back and let MS eat into their own profit margins trying to keep up and will only adjust the price if and when necessary.

PREDICTIONS FOR END OF 2015: (Made Jan 1st 2015)

PS4 - 34M - XB1 - 21m - WII U -12M

Rather than just a price cut you will probably see a vita bundle at the same price or a slim model.

Yes they will drop the price... but not to beat the Xbox One. As the manufacturing costs fall, they will lower the price to expand their base. Like Microsoft, their long term goal is to ship as many units as possible while maintaining a profit to build a base to sell services like their TV service, PlayStation Now, and PS Plus. Of course, they would also like to maintain their lead in the US, but quite frankly, they are so far ahead, they are going to go at their own pace, not Microsoft's.

If not, i will be schocked.

MS loss would be ridiculous.

PS4 will probably drop to 350$ with slim model announced at E3

A digital only 1TB 300$ model would be nice too.

I certainly think so
