Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Give me ONE reason Nintendo shouldn't go 3rd party.

Yep, I just want one reason that Nintendo going 3rd party would not benefit the entire industry. Think about it, more people get to enjoy great games, Nintendo's developers don't have to be stuck working on weaker hardware, they don't have to rack their brains to figure what to do with the gamepad, they can have a better online infrastructure, Nintendo themselves get to make more money because they're not making losses from the WiiU anymore. I mean let's face it, people buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games. I honestly don't think Nintendo makes very good hardware. Most of their systems feel kind of cheap.

The hard truth is that without 3rd party support Nintendo can't compete in the console space anymore, and I don't see them getting publishers back on board. Some will label me a Nintendo hater, but that isn't entirely true. I just don't see any logical reason Nintendo going 3rd party wouldn't benefit everyone.

Thoughts?

And you do realize that all the best non violent games sell best on Nintendo consoles and don't sell well on other consoles, therefore, Nintendo have a markewt on their own console and have a tiny market on other consoles, where the best sellers are violent games. On a Nintendo console, they know the architecture  and they know what they can do. They also have a direct link to people who in fact bought a Nintendo console and want Nintendo games. You are suggesting they pack that in and throw their games onto consoles where the best sellers are all violent.

Because people should have a gaming option that doesn't trap them in the business practices of Sony and MS.

My friend is a huge Xbox fan but always complains about policies and how the system microcharges, doesn't have working games day 1, all the unnecessary DLC, etc.

Nintendo has a solid record of sound business practices and without them having an alternative, we are all stuck with the MS/Sony monopoly, which would be a game over for non-PC gamers.

I agree. Most of Nintendo games which sell very good on Nintendo consoles would not sell nearly as good on other platforms.  I can't see Nintendo as a 3rd party developer, that would be the end of Nintendo.

If Nintendo went third party, where would other third parties then publish their games?

It's lilke selling beer at a baseball game compared to selling beer at a Beiber concert. Many people went to the baseball game to only drink beer. Others will enjoy baseball and most will drink a beer. Sure, some at the beiber concert can drink beer or will drink beer, but not like beer at a Baseball game which is famous for beer drinkers.

Similarly, it's like selling paintings (software) at a specialized painting store (console). Sure, Walmart sell paintings too, but the main reason people went to the specific painting store was for A PAINTING THAT YOU COULD ONLY GET THERE. Now if Walmart (oyther consoles)could get their hands on those paintings (Nintendo games), not only would the painting store not do well and go out of business (nintendo's console would disappear), but the paintings would be awash in a sea of other paintings in a store that people don't go to, in order to buy their specilaized paintings (nintendo games).

Now, do you understand, or should someone ask again? Why don't Nintendo go 3rd party? :P

Nintendo saved the industry during the video game crash. They have every right to stay in the industry.

I don't see why Nintendo's output would change. SEGA doesn't have anywhere near the roster of IPs that Nintendo has. Nintendo is already ignoring a bunch of their classic IPs like Ice Climbers and F-Zero.

You ever play SEGA's games? They sure as hell do have the roster and could possibly surpass Nintendo. SEGA's classic IP library and overall IP's is extensive VERY extensive.

If only SEGA would use their extensive library and fire on all registers

Scanning thread. Not detecting any actually good arguments. Agree with OP.

There are a ton of reasons they should go third-party that are backed by actual numbers and consumer trends, and a lot of reasons why they shouldn't made with sweeping generalizations and blind speculation. I've yet to hear a legitimately good point against it.

Scan harder.

I agree with you OP. Nintendo being in the hardware business just hurts consumers and stifles the development of the industry in general. This is because Nintendo doesn't share the vision of HD/VR gaming of Sony and MS.

How does it hurt consumers by offering something different. Two big dogs (Sony and MS) is enough to foster healthy growth in HD/VR. Nintendo can offer something different without hurting that.

Also, HD/VR is just one aspect of gaming, Nintendo offers much, much more in terms of worlds, art, colors, gameplay. I hope you understand that.

Nintendo is hurting consumers by holding their games hostage on their own systems.

Well, it's like their old hotel business. You want Nintendo luvins, got to a Nintendo love hotel!

This has been said so many times, but just look at Sega in 2001, and Sega today.
