I dunno what is going on at EG. But I can say this much, the OP didn't put a link to the site, and before I went their and found the artiicle myself, I already KNEW that its an article written by Richard Leadbetter. That says a lot.

I think gamers don't realize that these media guys are actually no different from us here on forums whenever they are making an opinion peice. Only difference is that rather than sttae their opinions in a thread, they write up an article and upload it to a website. Doesn't mean they could be any less of a fanboy or have an agenda. Leadbetter, well... just read through any 10 of his articles and you will see what I am saying. The guys is an obvious troll. Well, unless of course he is talking to others just like him that is.......

I have been reading Eurogamer for a long time and it's interesting you say that Richard is a troll.  If anything he seems to be a MS or Sony shill depending on the game, feature or hardware.  I have seen him praise the Sony platform, its games, features and hardware and be called a Sony shill.  Then he praise a feature or game on the Xbox platform and he is biased paid MS shill.  What I have found is that he likes what he likes as most of us gamers do and tell it as he sees it.  The problem with having an opinion that swings based on the game and the hardware is that most forum people can only see in one color.  If you present them with multiple different colors, they get confused and instead want to paint you as beign black or white.  So if you are not pro Sony then you are a biased MS shill.  If you are not Pro MS you are a biased Sony Shill.  Lately he is painted as a MS shill but I am sure that will change over time.  Either way, the fact that people think of him one way or the other probably is more proof he stands in the middle than anything else.

This may sound petty, but why does Xbox One constantly get top listing over PS4 in articles despite PS4 being industry leader? 90 % of the time It's Xbox One and PS4, hardly ever PS4 and Xbox One....

Actually doing a very simple search prove that you are wrong.  There are many cases where PS4 has come first.  Actually checking just Eurogamer, it appears if both are in the same sentence the PS4 is first the majority of the time. Just to help you out here are a few cases where the PS4 came first

www.eurogamer.net/.../digitalfoundry-2014-ps4-vs-xbox-one-which-is-the- better-media-player

www.eurogamer.net/.../2014-09-05-video-minecraft-ps4-xbox-one-draw- distance-compared-with-ps3-xbox-360

The link doesn't having it but the title starts with the PS4 first

Just a short list there are many more.

No. I don't need anyone to be pro whatever it is that I am for me to listen to them or wouldn't dispute what someone says if they were true simply cause the person is speaking against a platform I support.

What I do no like though, and what he does a lot of, is that he is always moving the posts. Things that he would make a big deal out of today tomorrow he would say they are irrelevant simply cause they are on a different platform.

But that is even going too far, lets keep things simple. How can someone, that is one of the primary writers for a particular section in a site; that specializes in pixel counting and game tech analysis across platforms, then with a straight face then come out and say that the technical differences they have spent so much time analysing, that has given them so many hits, has suddenly become irrelevant? Don't you see something very wrong with that picture?

I mean for me the majority of games coming out are piquing my interest at all. It seems so by the numbers in a lot of cases that I just don't even muster enough energy to take interest in them.

It's hilarious to me reading the responses from this thread when for a year now on this forum, DF's words have been treated as gospel to paint this agenda that there is a massive power difference between the two consoles. But now that this same outlet says this power difference hasn't amount to diddly squat at the end of the day, oh now DF is a joke and they're biased or something.

I own a PS4 and Xbone, what in this article isn't correct? There's nothing happening games wise on one that's not possible on the other. You basically get a toggle higher vegatation or some slightly better textures or a higher frame rate.

Time will tell whether this is due to it being early in the game or diminishing returns where even with the power advantage, it doesn't mean all that much when the games are actually being played.

for example : "Battlefield 4's 64-player online battles demonstrates a radically improved gameplay experience  a world apart from the last-gen equivalents"

So "Games that simply cant run or scale to older hardware? ".

sometimes you need more power. sadly.

MAG on ps3 supported 256 players.
They also give AC Unity as an example, because of the crowds I guess. Dead rising did that last gen.

900p vs 1080p is quite a difference if you see it that way

As someone who owns a PS4 and an Xbox One, the difference is unnoticable in real life.

@Bolded:  To be frank, you are taking what the man said and conforming it to your opinion.  Richard does not say that the technical difference are irrelevant.  He says that todays titles have not shown the clear advantage that the GPU power of the PS4 has over the X1 outside of resolution (mostly).  Here is a blurb from his final thoughts.

At this point it's safe to say that PS4's on-paper technical advantage has been proven beyond doubt by the lion's share of a year's worth of releases - but right now that's only in terms of technical metrics, where the relevance to the core experience shifts from one title to the next and often makes little difference to how enjoyable a game actually is to play. As things stand, both machines have proved the point that they are capable of producing beautiful visuals - now the challenge is to push on with new, innovative games. It'll take time but we've confident that we'll get there: with developers adjusting to the strengths of the new hardware, and last-gen support far less of a concern, hopefully we can see the gameplay revolution to match the impressive visuals the new consoles will continue to deliver.

Having both systems, I have to agree, I have not seen the separation between the PS4 and X1 but then again I expect to see something really significant hopefully next year.

I'll be honest, I don't see Eurogamers angle here. What do they consider to be next gen gameplay? Games that simply cant run or scale to older hardware? Games with radically new concepts? Will they consider Uncharted 4 to be next gen? What makes 3D World more next gen than Galaxy? What makes Smash for Wii U more next gen than Brawl? According to them what should Capcom do to make SFV more "next gen" than SFIV? This is very subjective and confusing.

The thing is that it is completely subjective.   When you upgrade your PC hardware you don't do it for next gen gameplay, you do it for better performance and graphics. This pie in the sky next gen gameplay exists only as some undefined,  unattainable thing to avoid the obvious objective conclusion in this comparison.

Nothing as remotly good looking as Drive club or Infamous on X1, not even close.

its a bit more then just vegatation.
