Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Boss: "You Will See JRPGs On Xbox One"

Japanese role-playing game fans who own an Xbox One may not be left wanting forever, as Microsoft's Xbox boss Phil Spencer assures fans that JRPGs are in the console's future.

A fan recently asked Spencer on Twitter if Xbox One owners can expect JRPGs in the future along the lines of Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey. Spencer'sresponse was quite straightforward: "You will see JRPGs on Xbox One," he said.

Though nothing is locked down at the moment, it sounds like the new JRPGs for Xbox One aren't coming from noted Japanese studio Mistwalker. Spencer added that he has not spoken with Mistwalker founder and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi or anyone from the team therefor some time.

Bringing more JRPGs to Xbox One is a popular topic on the Xbox Feedback site, attracting close to 500 votes. For his part, Spencer said in previous interviews that Japan is a "soulful" place for games, and one that is "critical" for Microsoft to support.

The Xbox One launched in Japan in September, though system sales aren't very strong there.

Yeah, FFXV and KHIII are given, I wonder what else will make the cut seeing that Japanese don't like Xbone. A Blue Dragon update would be cool though.

Well yeah, games have already been announced. 3 from SQEX alone. The problem is the exclusives like LO, BD, ToV etc.

They will have so far the most popular one at least such as KH 3 and FF 15.

It'll get the JRPGs that sell well in the west, like FF and Kingdom Hearts. I really don't see it getting a lot of more niche titles without it having a noteworthy installbase in japan.

FFXV and KH3 will not lead to sold XB1's; they need Lost Odyssey 2, Blue Dragon 2, etc for that to happen.

He is probably talking about multiplatforms and some rare exclusives that "Globally in US crowd" will ignore.

It would be nice if the Xbox and Nintendo made more of an effort to get some RPGs, but I'm not holding my breath. They seem content to just have one or two consoles exclusive RPGs for the whole gen...

How many JRPGs were released on the 360 in 2012, 2013 and 2014?

Obviously we know Square Enix backs Xbox, but outside of that be surprised to see anyone else do so. Especially as a high profile exclusive like a "Tales of" game again.
