Forums - Sony Discussion - God Of War: Chains Of Olympus GT Review

I'm a little depressed by the high scores of this game, for two reasons: I hate the aesthetic and appeal of this franchise, and it appears this game plays very much like a console game, only on a handheld.

The reason why that depresses me: handheld games have fairly consistently scored lower, on average, than console games, and I've always felt this was unfair, and showed the clear bias towards the type of games we play on consoles. Now, a handheld game finally breaks the 91+ metacritic barrier... and all it had to do was be extremely violent, oversexed, and play like a console game.

I'll point out, one more time, that I think the God of War games are well made. That isn't my complaint.

:/

Try to keep in mind though that the PSP was designed to play like a console on the go. The rating it's receiving are for it being a game, regardless of the platform, which to me is a good thing :) I always enjoyed the aestetics of the series though :) and the Violence is soooooo well done, not just another hack n' slash in my opinion ^_^

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Just because Ready at Dawn have done a very good job does not mean they should have to face your wroth. they have changed it slightly, added more checkpoints, and made a game that is still amazing to play, whether or not you are just sitting at home

I'd take the innovation a pink round ball brings any day ( Kirby Canvas Curse ). Or Patapon, Locoroco, etc of course

Are people actually complaining about this?

Sigh...

I completely agree that (1) Video games are over sexed and violent and (2) Making the same GOW game on a handheld is a nice technical achievement, but rewarding it with super high scores discourages true creativity. Personally, I hate playing the same game twice.

I'm going abroad soon so i'm gonna save this for the plane ride...don't know if I can wait though

I'm pumped about this game, except for 1 thing...
After playing the demo, I feel like I'm playing a watered down version of either of the PS2 versions of God of War.

So, for the PSP, its a great achievement, but for a God of War game...it's just a lesser version of its older brothers.

Who knows, though, maybe the full game will do something to wow me.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

See I'm different, I LOVE franchises, and I LOVE playing good games. Innovation is a 50/50 chance at a good game, I'd rather a company just sticks to solid, fun, engaging gameplay, than go out on a whimb and take a chance, unless you know the idea's going to be a amazing, play the safe route ^^ I couldn't be more stoked about how this game turned out :)
