Forums - Sony Discussion - Ukiyo no Shishi and Roushi hit Japan in January

Announced at TGS 2014... releasing in January 2015... I like those levels of turnarounds!

Spike Chunsoft's new action adventure games dated.

Ukiyo no Shishi will launch for PlayStation 3 and Ukiyo no Roushi for PS Vita on January 29 in Japan, this week’s Famitsu reveals.

The PlayStation 3 game, Ukiyo no Shishi, will cost 7,800 yen, while the PS Vita game, Ukiyo no Roushi, will cost 5,800 yen.

Famitsu also reveals eight weapon types present in the game:

  • Uchigatana
  • One-handed sword
  • Odachi (great sword)
  • Ninja sword
  • Dual swords
  • Spear
  • Bare hands
  • Gun (special)

Each weapon class comes with its own set of unique techniques to use during combat. Experience points earned during fights can be used to unlock more moves.

If you have save data for both the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita games, you’ll be able to share exclusive items, weapons, and costumes.

Haven't heard of this before and wikipedia isn't being helpful. Is there much known about this game yet?

It's developed by the team that worked on DanganRonpa, they're samurai games and I think they're open world, the initial announcement pointed out that they were similiar to (but were not) the Way of the Samurai games.

The stories in the PS3 and Vita versions are told from different perspectives.

Was kinda hoping for an ukiyo-e style art direction when I happened by the title.

I believe there's a filter you can toggle.

Well that's a little better aesthetically, but the graphics in general look terrible.  Those hakama look more like mc hammer parachute pants.

I'm glad we still have developers that produce this level of scope, to be honest.

I'd rather have more games that aim to do a couple of things well than do everything AAA and require millions of copies sold.

Japan is games!

Gameplay trailer:

Yes plz

I thought the presentation was pretty generic on first sight too, but actual footage and newer screens actually show more of the cool art direction.

Spike Chunsoft said they wanted to make greater western expansion/presence a goal so this should have a good chance of getting here.
