Do them a favor and get them a PS3. It's cheaper on your pockets and there is a wide variety of games they might like such as Ratchet & Clank, Motorstorm, etc. You also have a wide variety of Playstation classics and regular downloadable games like Fat Princess, The Unfinished Swan, Okabu, etc.

The PS4 doesnt have much on it yet. The majority of its games are on PS3 and look good enough.

Get them a PS3 now and think about getting them a PS4 later on if you want.

2 or 3 years time after one or two price cuts and a good line up of games the PS4 will be a better purchase in the future.
PS3 at its cheaper price and a huge library of games is a better purchase today.

PS3 for now. Cheaper and a greater selection of family friendly hits (LBP, Ratchet, Jak HD, Sly HD and 4, and more)

The games you mentioned are on PS4, so you should get that. Your kids will be getting older and won't want a PS3 next year when their friends have PS4. 150+ games are already out on PS4, not sure what these guys are talking about.

If your buying the console for young kids then its an absolute no brainer. Buy a PS3. Like you said, the console in the UK is now £150 for the 12GB model but if you shop around, you can easily get a new one for a bit less.

Then you had the added bonus of literally 100s of older games for the system. Many of which can be picked up nowadays for a fiver if your willing to buy used from Ebay, CeX or Game etc. The PS4 will be worth buying them as an Xmas present, but maybe Xmas 2015/16 when there is a hell of lot more choice available (and the price will have come down)

How does this not have a poll? I agree with the consensus grab the PS3. PS4 will be great in a few years with a backlog of games to go through, and at that time will have gone through a price cut if you elect to make that jump. PS3 right now has an amazing library and is much cheaper.

Go long therm, the PS4 is the better choice, unless you need the media features of the PS3.

I sold my PS3 a few months back, I don't feel there is much future left in it, when you are used to what the PS4 has to offer this is really hard to go back to 90% of the PS3 library.

Ps3 more games then the Ps4 and larger online community, and if you manage to get a older model you can play PS2 and PS1 games also.
