"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

a large portion of that 150+ mill are casuals from last gen and are unlikely to even enter this gen, a large portion have moved on from dedicated console gaming. I still think this gen will be a massive reduction in total lifetime sales overall.

As to the actual question, It will be close, probably just passed by end of year.

No chance, in my opinion.

The Xbox One has sold 2.6m year to date. Let's say it's even more skewed towards holiday sales than the Xbox 360, then it could end up with 9m by the end of the year, tops.

The Wii U has sold 1.9m YTD. Let's say that it is less skewed towards holiday sales than it was last year. That would still put it past 9m.

So yeah, even using optimistic numbers, it won't happen. It'll happen some time in 2015 no doubt, just not this year.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

It depends on the impact of Super Smash Bros and christmas on the WiiU.

This is the Game of Thrones

Who are the 150 million+ casuals from last gen? I think there were only 100 million.

Anyways console sales will definitely not decrease by 150 million, or even 100 million from last gen. It will be much lesser, as console gaming is becoming more mainstream, and PS4/XB1 will reach mass market prices in half a decade unlike PS360.

Microsoft is walking into the holiday seasons with the MCC and AAA multiplats up the wazoo for the holiday season. They will either edge closer to beating Nintendo or completely pass them.
