Forums - Sony Discussion - PSN Plus price increases "slightly" in South Africa

http://sagamer.co.za/2014/09/30/looks-like-ps-plus-has-nearly-doubled-in-price-only-in-south-africa

Due to various market conditions, the price of your PlayStation Plus subscription is going to rise slightly. On 01/10/2014 the price of a 12 month subscription will rise from ZAR489.00 to ZAR749.00.

If your PlayStation Plus account is set to renew automatically you don’t need to do anything. You won’t begin paying the new rate immediately on 01/10/2014; instead you will start paying the new price from your first renewal date after 01/10/2014

According to Reddit the price will also go up in Russia and Turkey http://www.reddit.com/r/PlayStationPlus/comments/2hz4fl/just_received_a_email_saying_plus_renewal_price/

50% is "slight"?

Also 50% is "nearly double"?

ugh.. a 23% rise in Russia... Does anyone think that they'll lower the price if the local currency goes up again?

Yes, and we've heard comments that plus prices will be up in other countries too.

SA prices compared to EU prices:
1 Rand = €0.07
Old price: 489 Rand = €34.42 (Price in EU for 1y is €49.99)
New price: 749 Rand = €52.73
So they used to pay over €15 less than the EU before, and now they pay almost €3 more. A lot more fair in comparison, but obviously it will still gurt.

Wow, that is a huge drop. Anyway the change seems reasonable, although I'm sure some will still bitch and complain.

Well, the Russian Ruble is going to complete shit because of the situation in Ukraine and the American and EU sanctions against Russia, so Russians are basically fucked.

Russian prices compared to EU prices:
1 Ruble = ~€0.02
Old price: 1950 RUR = €39.07 (Price in EU for 1y is €49.99)
New price: 2399 RUR = €48.07
So they used to pay over €10 less than the EU before, and now they pay almost €2 less. A lot more fair in comparison, but obviously it will still hurt.
