Lost Odyssey is hidden?
The game is widely know as the best RPG only on 360 and one of the best of the generation.

It is sales wise even though it might be undertracked a bit, but even if numbers where 100% accurate it probably still would be well under 1 million copies sold.  Also its been out of print for a while now since new unopened copies are now getting harder to find.

Well that's a shame, if it was available at PS3 I would have it for sure.
Why people didn't buy it on 360? :/

Well it sold halfway decent in North America it just underperformed everywhere else around the world.  Shame it never showed up on games on demand either.  It could easily sell some more copies there I doubt it would be that much bigger then L.A. Noire which is currently the biggest game available on demand they could save a lot of space by only including one language track instead of including all six that are on the disc version.

the game that came to my mind the moment i read this threads title was Vanquish, so im gald to see it was the first game to be mentioned in the whole thread.

aside from that Valkyria Chronicles is debatable, since it used to be a overlooked gem, but with time it has become pretty popular among "hardcore" gamers, to the point that you see it mentioned in a LOT of forums and gaming websites, so it must have mainteined some good sales through the years to the point that i dont think you can say its an overlooked gem anymore.

EDIT: just searched its sales and Valkyria Chronicles sold 1.19 million copies... so i truly dont know if those are good numbers or not, for this type of game.

Valkyria Chronicles was the MAIN reason I bought a PS3. I actually bought the game more than 6 months before the console as it was hard to find.

In Japan it debuted @ #3-78,000, to #10-15-16- to #29 with a little more than 120.000, in 6 years it has doubled that amount which is rare for a non Nintendo game.

In Europe, it never did make the chart.

In NA, it had one week on the chart @ #35, then dropped off the chart, yet still managed to sell 670,000 lifetime. It's legs were due to word of mouth, and Sega constantly releasing more copies as more and more gamers turned others on to this fine game. Most of us were amazed it even hit a million, not that it didn't deserve it, just amazed in how long it took to get there.

A game not mentioned yet is Opoona, a unique  labour of love RPG, that must of turned off many gamers, with it's confusing as all get out areas.

well i guess i was kind of right, it did got constant sales through word of mouth and it seems it was succesful, now if only SEGA could bring the third installment to NA.

Those are pretty good numbers for that type of game even Final Fantasy Tacictic on the PS1 only managed to sell 2.45 million copies.  Its also more copies then any Fire Emblem game execpt for awakeing

Siren New Translation and Valkyria Chronicles.

Yes, you were bang on in your assessment of how and why it eventually became a success story. I was very disappointed that the sequel went to a handheld I was never going to buy. Since the first one sold the best in NA, Sega would be foolish, not to release any further sequel in the NA market.

You are so right, i was also let down by the news of it transitioning to handheld, since i dont like handhelds my self, but well now that the PS TV is coming out i will at least get to play Valkyria Chronicles 2 on a proper TV, and maybe just maybe i might buy Valkyria Chronicles 3 and try to get through it despite it being on japanese...

imagine a localized Valkyria Chronicles collection with all 3  games + DLC on PS4, day 1 buy for me.

i mean it sounds like something to good to be true, BUT the truth is that Valkyria Chronicles 1 (PS3) sold 1.190.000 units out of which 670.000 units were sold just in NA, that is more than the total sales of Valkyria Chronicles 2 (510.000 units) and Valkyria Chronicles 3 (210.000 units), the reason why SEGA hasnt localized the third game is beyond me...

also i think that our opinion of it going to handheld being a bad decision can be viewed through the sales of the sequels, that are just far from the first one, seems like a lot people (like us) didnt want a handheld game.

Happy to read that, great games deserve some equally great sales.

Nope, none of those qualify by sales alone except for MotorStorm: Apocalypse but that one is worse game in the franchise.
