Forums - Gaming Discussion - Watch Dogs is still the fastest selling new IP in Europe

Ubisoft has confirmed to MCV that, according to GfK data, Watch Dogs remains the fastest selling new IP in Europe... not Destiny.

In the week that followed the arrival of Destiny, Activision proudly declared that the game had become the fastest selling new IP after one week in the UK and US - beating the record previously set by Ubisoft's Watch Dogs in May.

Yet Ubisoft has told MCV that the open world hacking action adventure still sold more in its first week than Destiny managed across Europe as a whole.

A spokesperson told us: "“You may have seen the report on Destiny’s sales in the UK. Just thought you’d like to know that, across Europe, Watch Dogs remains the fastest-selling new IP ever after one week, according to GFK panel.

"Congratulations to Activision and Bungie for taking the title in North America and the UK, but Watch Dogs is still going strong and we’re proud of everything that the Watch Dogs team has accomplished so far.“

Ubisoft has just announced that Watch Dogs: Bad Blood, new story DLC, is available now to Season Pass holders on PS4.

The archeage gold in the experience is very useful for every gamer. But now, I understand something in the experience. I experience it is an exciting and useful activity. I had been involved in the material modify in this profession, but I discovered Cheap ArcheAge Gold that most players do not seem to know these manufacturing abilities are one factor. This manufacturing does not need expertise abilities, no particular place, does not Arche Age Gold need a complicated procedure.

does VGC concur?

Well, so far we only have German numbers, but they confirm it.

It was actually the PC version that made the difference...

Wow. And that's even with all the new tier 2 countries :P

us is shooter land.
ps4 is stronger in europe (watchdogs sold badly on xb1, but destiny great)
pc version for europe

destiny sold only ~30k units more in uk (shooter land, too)
im curious, if destiny would be worlds biggest new ip without that white ps4 destiny bundle. i highly doubt that

Watch Dogs probably sold more because of PC version, but I must say I was not expecting this...

Watch Dogs probably will sell less in the long time because it's such a forgettable game....I don't think anyone cares about that game anymore. Destiny, instead, has its flaws right now but it's definitively a better and funnier game based in looting, progression and new content, with a lot more potential to get better.

Not to mention the hugely expensive marketing campaign run by Sony and the extra 1m next gen consoles out there in Europe.

Oh you mean what Sony did with both games? I'm sure they're disappointed to "have" the two fastest selling new IPs in two different regions

You're right. The hugely expensive marketing campaign by Sony for Watch Dogs really was a big success.

Anyway, I believe Ubi might be "cheating" here and not counting bundle copies. While there was a WD bundle in EU, it wasn't nearly as appetizing as the Destiny one because the game was not free, unlike Destiny. Even if WD is more in line with european tastes, i think the free game would make up for that. Or maybe the reason is that Destiny sold less on PS3 than WD (totally possible), although Destiny PS4 outsold WD PS4 (veeery likely)

Europeans learnt not to buy into the hype after being burnt by Watch_Dogs
