Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft is killing the Nokia and Windows Phone brands

My mom has a Windows phone, and I downloaded Halo on it! She grounded me for doing that. :'(

they should take the nokia for specialsmartphone, like 50$ phones or outdoor.

I have a Lumia for work, basic model. It's nothing special. And WP8 is meh IMO.

I doubt these moves will accomplish much. When most people have viable alternatives they choose not to buy Windows, it seems. Removing the "phone" bit won't change that. Nokia has fallen away in reputation, so ditching the name probably won't harm them any, but that's about all there is to say on it.

A few days ago I've met the very first person owning a Windows phone.

I must say I didn't really like the user interface, but it seemed quite smooth and fast for such a cheap phone.

But I was rather surprised to learn that he's not even using it as a phone - he didn't even put a SIM card in it!
Instead, he only bought it because it was so cheap and can be used as an offline car navigation system
(unlike Android phones, it's apparently using map data stored on the device itself)...

HaHa! I do the same thing. I bought a Lumia 520 no contract for $40. It has GPS features, has a decent camera, plays portable games, MP3 player. Stand alone GPS average near the $100 mark.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

40$ ? Wow, that's cheap! I guess at that price tag I'd also buy one, if only for the fun of owning one. I think he said he paid about 90 Euros.

Sensationalist thread title? Makes it sound like they are getting rid of their phone efforts all together.

My contract is up next month and I'll be getting a Lumia 1520 to replace my aging 820. I need the screen that big because even with my glasses on I still can't read some of the text in the 9gag app. :'(

they are killing everything!

i have windows 8.1 for almost a year now.... the apps support is horrible! they are not selling win on developers.

Lumina 820 here awesome phone. Just bought plants vs zombies awesome game with achievements!

yea, I really like my windows phone. I prefer it over iphone/android now.

My wife has the Lumia 520 cheap phone. But with the features it has, it hardly seems cheap. I really like the user interface and speed of the OS. I have an Android phone right now, but wouldn't mind upgrading to Windows if Virgin Mobile ever offers one.
