Forums - Gaming Discussion - RUMOR- New Nintendo 3DS has no region locking and big NNID changes O_O

You know guys, how's about instead of pondering rumors, we all email Nintendo and ask for no region locking? Write them that you'll only buy the new one if there's no region locking.

I use this: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/webform/ and plan to call them up later via 1 (800) 255-3700.

For the record, the regional lockout isn't a hardware flag, it's a switched option in the firmware, they could remove region lockout on the current 3DS if they wanted to, but they don't, chances of them doing so for the new 3ds and not the current 3ds = slim to none.

Hardware itself just tells the software that region it is - it's down to the firmware what it wants to do with that information.

IIRC there was a softmod on Wii that removed region locking. You are right, they wouldn't release a new handheld to just do that.

People already did the whole "One Nintendo for the world" thing on Miiverse. If NOA listened to Operaton Rainfall, it's possible but it would take a HUGE campaign.

Thanks for the info: will research "ONftW" thing later.

This is a good thing. Let's just hope Ninty make all the right choices, including allowing new games to run on older 3DS models, at worst with scaled down settings, whenever it's possible.

I would be surprised if there was no region lock.

Check out my site: http://www.agamingwebsite.blogspot.com/

Currently playing: Bayonetta, Destiny (barely), Fantasy Life

Probably Getting: Bravely Second, Devil's Third, Final Fantasy 15, Final Fantasy Explorers, Super Smash Bros U, Star Fox U, The Witcher 3, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Zelda U

That would be so awesome!

and nintendo have shot this rumor out of the water.
surprised level:0

I don't think region locking has ever affected me. I've never imported a game from Japan nor would I ever considering most Japanese games are RPGs which are very often dialogue-heavy. That pretty much gives them a language 'lock'. For those who can read Japanese, I do hope they speak with their wallets and buy a Vita.
