Forums - Gaming Discussion - WII U true failure is not the console or games.

You are aware that there is such a thing known as the Wii u Pro Controller right? lol

Also one of Nintendo's main quotes which they continue to stand by to this day (and ever since they first entered the video game industry with the NES) is that

"Software Sells Hardware". And fuck me sideways if I'm wrong but isn't mario kart 8 the saving grace of the Wii u right now???

it does, but not enough to be number one in the home console buisness anymore. Maybe they should listen to there own advice as Third Party Software also sells hardware.

Nintendo isn't even getting Kingdom Hearts 3 on the WiiU. One of the biggest J-RPG's coming to Consoles. A lot of the BIGGEST third party games are not going to be on the WiiU.

Not as hyped but still good Third Party Games not coming to WiiU?
Alien Isolation
Sleeping Dogs Definitive
Shadow Warrior
Walking Dead season 2
The Wolf Among Us
Peggle 2
Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare

A big survival horror game The Evil Within
A big Western RPG Witcher 3
A big FPS game Far Cry 3

All not coming on the WiiU, this is the reason why the majority of people don't even choose the WiiU as a main Console. They miss out on Too much if the WiiU was the only console they can get. The list will get even bigger as time goes on.

The Walking Dead and the Walking dead season 2 are on almost EVERY platform even on Applicable Android and IOS platforms. But absolutely nothing on the WiiU.

They were bleeding money from the 3DS too though and people don't call that a failure now. It's certainly not meeting expectations. But "failure" is a pretty broad word. I wouldn't call the PS3 a failure for example as some would because it didn't sell as well as the previous systems.

tell me one business where you cut 2/3rds out of your forcast and not call it a failure ?

Disagree with OP

The WiiU true failure is how it released with a near broken OS. It was slow and unstable and it lacked in features core gamers expect. It still lacks in this area with a useless friend list with no invite/join options on console level. It also lacks any kind of party voice chat at system level. It also lacks any kind of meaningful notification system.

With all those things missing, many of the 3rd party games that did release would be chosen on other consoles over WiiU by owners that have more than just WiiU (nearly all WiiU owners have X360, PS3, PS4, or XBO as well). This leads to poor 3rd party game sales, and then leads to no more 3rd party multi-plat games for WiiU.

Architecturally since PS4 / XBO went PC architecture, this also hurts WiiU with 3rd party multi-plat ports, even if the WiiU is capable hardware, the porting cost isn't worth the tiny install base.

The Gamepad itself is the best thing about the console. Off-TV play is a great option, and with full set of controls (4 triggers, analog sticks with click-in, and great d-pad and face buttons) it makes the WiiU the best in-home portable system to date.

I didn't even think about how Sony and Xboxone is easier to develop for since it's closer to PC architechture, but yes. This is true, I'm completely sick of Nintendo's Practices therefore I have stopped supporting them. I understand why people would want to buy them. But they keep on flouting how they have AMAZING third party support and they have amazing Third Party Games and showed games catered more to the Mainstream like FPS games etc... I felt lied to in E3 when they introduced the WiiU. I should of known better.

The first season of The Walking Dead is on Ouya, on the friggen Ouya and it's not even out on the WiiU. What a joke.

lol where did you get that.  Most of the wiiu ownwers here hate all other consoles, many u owners are just nintendo fanboys who own nothing but nintendo hardware.  So unless you got factual numbers, dont post total bs just to support nothing more then your opinion.

Cool it makes the wiiu best at something console owners dont give a shit about, you know most own these things called tv and they are big and have awesome picture quality.  Which is the big appeal of console gaming.  Factually most people purchese a console to game on a big tv not a medicore small screen on a controller.

Its the god damn pad.

I played Super mario bros u and hated it, Pikmen was ok but now playing Kart and Zombie U i hate em.  Are all these games bad... Is it the games, nope its the damn weirdo controler its freaking awful.  I can't stand playing with the freaking pad especially after putting in serious time with the DS4.  I cant imagine handing that weird bulky thing over to anyone and them really enjoying playing with it, this thing seriosuly is the one true failure of the wiiu that can easily be rectified and doing so might even benefit the console with a new cheapest sku.

No doubt in my mind people would like the wiiu better and it would sale better if they made a pad less sku.  Even as a companion console to the PS4 or PC this things sales potential is hampred by a single decision that clearly did not pan out by can and should be recified asap.

Ill have to buy a 3rd party add on and hopefully ican use my Ds4 to play U games, casue for now i refuse to buy a ninty controller. Extra 50 from me for this fak up they aint getting.  Seriously they went after hardcore gamers with that pad thing... wtf were they thinking.

How much time have you spent using it?

Really this argument. Can't people just not like the gamepad. For your information I've played with the gamepad for a month. I don't care to use it anymore.

It wasn't an argument, it was a question. Of course you can "not like the gamepad", everyone I have talked to that have seen it then used it has always said it wasn't like they thought it was going to be. That isn't to say that prefer it, but that it's entirely fine. I have very much come to prefer it. When I use a DS it feels unnatural because my hands don't want to be that close together naturally and I find I'm always trying to stretch it if it were possible. The X1 controller feels better, but still not quite as ergonomic as I would like. The gamepad isn't perfect by any stretch, but certainly not bad in my opinion and at first it felt quite alien, but in very little time with it I have grown very comfortable with it. There is something with where the R and L buttons are for my hands, but it's more than acceptable.

You legitimately just sound biased and spoiled, especially when there are other options. I always find it funny that so many people love the DS controllers. They have never been designed very ergonomically. They are getting better and are actually fairly comfortable now, but they really only fit one size of hand and mine are too large. I think it's mostly familarity and what many people have grown up with. To this day my favorite controller is the N64 because at the time, in my teens it fit my hands perfectly, now I find it a little too small.

Get over yourself and get a pro controller, the attachment (if something like that comes out) will likely cost you more anyway and be less compatible.

Nope, not biased or spoiled. If I was, I would hate the Wii remote. I use that controller everywhere, but Smash and MK. I gave the gamepad a chance. I never really use it, because I always had a annoyance with it. I have to look down to my right when playing pikmin for the map, I can't just use the Wii Remote/nunchuck with the game. System functions can't be changed, just because Nintendo wants you to use it. Can I get a choice to use the system without having options stuck to the pad, and the Miiverse window default to my TV on startup?

Having a function forced on it. ALA MK8 Map can't be switched to TV unless you do it from the pad, really dumb. I still just play the game without the map. I can't place it anywhere to have it near my TV. And I can't use it as the steering wheel for MK8. It has input lag when you use the accelrometer turn. And it's awkward for me to drive with the wider area, for some reason. It's probably me being careful. I can't get agressive with the gamepad. I don't want to drop it. While controllers I don't care if I do drop them by mistake. There's no screen to crack. I seriously couldn't win any online races till I bought the pro controller. If nintendo fixed those issues I have with the system. I'd stop complaining. And just use the pad when I want Off TV play. And people who love the pad, can enjoy it.

Things I would like to be fixed:

- The system boots up from any other controller, the gamepad stays off. Currently I had to pull the battery from the Gamepad to acomplish this.

- The Miiverse hub screen can be defaulted to Gamepad screen. ALA GBA screen choice on the DS.

- All games will boot and function without the gamepad dectected. Pikmin 3 doesn't let you.

- Any maps or item usage on the gamepad can be switched to TV, at will, saved apart of the games configuration, and use the Wii Remote in replacement for the touch screen. Or normal joysticks.

- All system menus, functions, and features work on the TV screen when the Gamepad is off. Even the Gamepad notification banners. They can be implimented onto  the Home Button Menu.

- Fix the friends list so it acutally shows people online. And not where you have to hit home and THEN you'll know someone is online. Seriously, whos idea was that?

- Remove the really random requirement to aim a Wii Remote at your tv to boot into Wii Mode.

But thatis failure in terms of investors/company expectations, not end users. Most users (which failure applies to on our side of the process) wouldn't deem a console with a solid games lineup that they really enjoyed an outright failure.

You want outright failure, look at systems like the GX 4000, Atari Jaguar etc. If you think Wii U is even close to that, then just wow!

WiiU Solid Lineup? ahahhahahaha.

You're right it's not a failure in the same respect as Atari Jaguar but it's a Failure to Nintendo and Sales and many other things.

It's still got the best 8th gen home console lineup. Whether that is a positive for the Wii U, or just how pathetic the first 12 months have turned out to be for the XB1 and PS4 you can decide.
