Forums - Gaming Discussion - Destiny overhyped?

As a long time Halo fan and to an extent COD game, the game is very underwhelming.

Gameplay and gunplay is not as engaging as Halo or Borderlands. Enemy encounters are fairly bland and they are easy to drop, like COD. The universe doesn't seem too interesting either, nothing compared to Halo, Mass Effect or even Borderlands.

The ''mmo'' design is a huge turn off for me. I would have enjoyed the meta much more if it was either level based like Halo or straight up open world like Borderlands.

If you dont think it looks that great, wait for the price to drop.

For some people I'm sure. Personally I have seen more doubting than hype (obviously commercials will hype up the game they're advertising) from the game community.

Can someone please explain to me why Destiny is viewed as the Second Coming? To me it looks like Halo and CoD took turns gang raping WoW.

What's the big deal? And I'm dead serious, I missed the beta because of personal problems. I'd really like to know why I should buy this game.

So you understand that Destiny is a mix of the most popular games of all time and you're telling me you don't know where the hype is coming from?

GTA, Wii Fit and Super Smash Bros? That's an odd combination.

C'mon, it's not that hyped. It's hyped like any game from a reputable dev like Bungie should, but not second coming type hype

I might purchase it for the Playstation 4 next year.
Most of my anticipated games for the PS4 are released in 2015, so I will pick the console next year and I will be able to assess Destiny's assets once all the hype has died down.

- Playstation enthusiasts who see (and play) a Halo like game for the first time.
- Only good game (at least FPS) before November (COD/Halo).
- And it is a very fun and good game

Maybe a bit overhyped but well deserved I guess

I think the hype level is just OK. We just know it will sell very well and move a lot of consoles, since WD managed to do that somehow and it is a shooter from 2 big companys, 1 that is critically and the other sells 20M every year without breaking a sweat.

That said, i am not hyped at all. Maybe if it gets out on PC, i may get it on a steam sale.
Critically, i expect a meta around 85, because it will sell well enought so no one feels confortable bashing it on a review.

I didn't understand the hype at all. I've played the beta and wasn't very attracted to it at all. It's not bad, but definitely not ''the second coming''. Though I have to add that I'm not really in to shooters anyway.

Add me on Xbox: DWTKarma

I can't tell you why you should buy it because I don't think it's worth buying after playing the beta. But of course it's going to get massive hype. As you said it's like a combination of Halo and CoD with some MMO elements mixed in. Basically Borderlands without the vulgarity and personality.

Whether it's "overhyped" or not depends on your opinion of the final product. Not to mention people will believe the game is as hyped as they want it to be. If you aren't interested in it, I guess that would make the hype and press for it seem more than it actually is.
