Best Tournament Arc?

Saki.

So dramatic.  So many high-school girl badasses.  More importantly, most of the time you have no clue who is going to win a match or who is going to move on to the next round.  That's tough because the writer invests you in almost everyone.  Sometimes I'm really torn about who I pull for.

To be fair Saki is nothing but tournaments^^

But I'll use any excuse to post this again.

I will have to give this to Dragon Ball though. The tournaments are easily the most fun in the whole series and it should have a lot more of them. All 3 tournaments were amazing until the powers spiraled out of control.

Pretty sure season 2 has been greenlit and planned to release soon since season 1 ended so....

Really? I must have not read the date then xD

Still excited for it! Cant believe I've been missing this for years (the original anime came out in 2013) - but I guess thats because of my stupid 3 year hiatus from watching anime.

And now imagine all the actually good animes you missed!

Not true.  It's has trips to hot springs between tournaments.  Those are also important.

Side A had a ton of story progression, though.

Meanwhile, video inserts have broken for me.  Awesome.

Not only for you. Must be something with the site and flash since I don't have problems with embeds on other sites. It's not chrome or adblock causing this.

*sees poll*

The Dressrosa tournament in One Piece was enjoyable, since it was a battle royale, and also wasn't the focal point of the arc...so I never got the impression Oda was just picking his nose and filling time. It was also a nice lead-in to the formation of the Strawhat Grand Fleet.

Still...looking at the poll options, I have to choose Hunter x Hunter. The tournament in the Exam arc was not only set up differently than the norm (only the loser advances), but it ended so suddenly and without warning after Killua killed one of the entrants. Probably my favorite part of Hunter x Hunter in general was how it wasn't afraid to ignore established arc templates, and that really shown with the Exam tournament.

a ramdom pic for the day.

JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJO!

Yu Yu Hakusho for best tournament arc. Not only was The Dark Tournament the strongest arc in the series, it was the best tournament I've seen. Characters pushed themselves, stakes were high, combat was good, and it was pleasantly dramatic.

Oooh, tournament arc poll? I love tournament arcs!

Although how come Pokemon isn't in the poll? That'd be my vote for best tournament arc. It's had quite a few good tournament arcs actually.

I actually forgot about Pokemon when making the list :P

LOVE IT!

Diamond is not Crash xD What a beautiful Duwang.

My vote is also YuYu Hakusho because the Dark Tournament Arc was when I fell in love with the series. The way Togashi handled it was damn good writing and the fights were really intense. Dragon Ball is a very close second for me.

I voted Yu Yu Hakusho too, loved the tournament. I really liked the Naruto tournament too (especially the fight Lee vs Gaara, of course).

And I'm not sure how is the Shaman King anime, but the tournament in the manga was also pretty interesting.
