Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii purchasing strategy

I'm planning on buying a Wii for Brawl. The thing is, with the difficulty of finding one, I don't want to come home dissapointed.

I know some of you work at Best Buy/Gamestop/etc. So my question is---what day do you get your Wii shipments in typically? Or, what time/day would I be most likely to find Wii's in the store? Thanks.

1) Check the weekly Sunday ads on Saturday.
2) Find a place that will have Wiis.
3) Arrive early and wait in line.

Gamestop and Circuit City always get their shipments in on Sundays in time for the weekly sales. If you get there when they open on Sunday, you should be able to get a Wii. Target and Walmart's shipments are more erratic, but if your Walmart is open 24 hours you could check by every night or so if you have time. Its still difficult to get a Wii, but its not nearly as hard as it has been in the past year or so.

Gamestop everyday 11am phone call starting now.

Best Buy check Tuesday and Friday mornings, as soon as they open. Otherwise keep asking around for when stores expect to get some, you'll luck out eventually.

It's easier than that. If you live in or near a large Metro area, go to a Best Buy (or like store, such as Circuit City or whatever) and see if they have any Wii's. If not, ask them to check which other nearby stores (in the same chain, mind you) have Wii's. Their databases are all linked up and each store can check the stock in another store.  Then, simply drive like hell to the store with a Wii.

This is exactly how I got mine last May (or was it June?).  I went to Best Buy, they had none, I had them check the other nearby Best Buys, and lo and behold, there were two stores with Wiis.  A close one with about 7, a far one with about 12.  Fifteen minutes later, I had my Wii.  I literally spent less than an hour searching and buying it.  This should work roughly the same for Circuit City and GameStop.  Perhaps even Target or Wal-Mart stores (I'm not sure, but put those as last resorts).

Even easier if you know the shipping dates.

If you're in a smaller town much like the one I work at we get in 3 Wiis at a time and its all random, best idea is to get there at or before the store opens (before being the best) pester the workers until the shipment gets in at 11am, if they come in purchase and enjoy, if not repeat till there is one. The shipments come into GameStop Mon. to Fri. at 11am what comes in is always random.

*note* it is very time consuming but just calling is usually never enough, as no one can hold you a system, and usually there's people already there if you called, so most likely the time you get there they will be gone. Sorry to say it but the only way you're going to make sure to get one from GameStop is to take time out of your own schedule every day Mon. to Fri.

Ask your local game retailers for most accurate info... I think Sunday morning is when they release them at toys-r-us, before the store normally opens.

On the plus side, Nintendo doesn't do much stock piling, (mostly move shipments around), but they are likely doing at least a little for Brawl... It will probably be easier to get a wii the week of release, but demand will likely be higher too...

Some store may let you pay in advance to reserve a wii from the next shipment.

There is also an aplet that will watch Amazon and fireoff all sorts of alarms when they get one in stock.  You only have minutes (or less) before they are sold out though....

I'm sorry, but I don't know if you missed the memo but the Wii isn't in high demand anymore and is no longer selling out. It's obviously a fad and should be easy to find if you even want to find such a thing.

/sarcasm

I would say check Best Buy Sunday mornings and bother your local Gamestop everyday at opening.
