Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo's 3.6 mil forecast for Wii U - will they achieve it?

Will be 1.5 million off, I mean the majority that wants smash bros has probably already bought a wii u when Mario kart was released, I cant see it selling much

Yeah 100% it will smash that number.

I don't know, Q2 look pretty barren(last year we got pikmin 3, W101 and zelda HD, now wii sports and musou). Maybe with a price cut. And i'm not really sure if smash U will be ready for the holiday season.

"Nintendo would not be that stupid to let this slip..."

The same thing was said last year about MK8 missing the 2013 holiday season. And DKC got delayed too.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

They will achieve 4M, I believe, since Smash and Holidays so yeah.....

Wait a few more days. Nintendo's Q1 financial report happens very soon, and it'll include some updated release details, etc. Speculating on it right now is a bit silly.

By the way, 844k being sold so far is actually a strong result for 30% of the period, because Nintendo system sales are always far higher during the holidays. To make the point, consider that, in 2013, April to July, Wii U sold 446k... and then, in November alone, it sold 466k... and in December, it sold 1.14 million units. If we assume that 844k is the equivalent for this year, then we'd expect about 882k in November and 2.16 million in December. So just adding together November and December, you get over 3 million, and with current sales added, it's nearly 3.9 million. That's without August-October or January-March 2015.

Great analysis! I hope it holds true. I cant remember what games came out in April-July last year... wasnt that time frame pretty barren?

no I know 2 people alone who are waiting to buy Wii U when smash bros releases. And that shows that there could be millions waiting for smash bros. and you have to be kidding by "I cant see it selling much." They aimed low because they could say look we beat our prediction by 1 million. and  They know they will sell more than that because Mario Kart and Smash Bros. plus Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors.  Last year they sold 2.7 million. So far they've sold 811,530 vs last FY year's 445,868. I'm sure they can nearly double last year's. It will beat at least 4 million.

I attended a couple of those Smash events at Best Buy last month.   I talked to several people that were looking forward to purchasing their Wii U and Smash together.   You can tell a lot of them didn't have a Wii U yet either because many brought along a GC controller...any current Wii U owner would know the console does not have GC controller ports (hence the coinciding release of the GC controller adapter with Smash Wii U).

Mario Kart 8 never had a holiday 2013 release date.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

My prediction is 12,000,000 of Wii U shipment on 31 March.
So, 12m - 6,17m= 5,83m.
And will increase again the sales in 2015.

Easily. Holiday sales alone will be 3m+.

Keep on dreaming ahha

Alright. Let's bet. I win if the Wii U, according to Vgchartz, sells 3 million or more in the months of November and December.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

I'm curious to know about your prediction for PS4 and Xbox one which has even better lineup for Holidays with few exclusives and many third party games which are not there in Wii U.
