We established that bigwig publisher Electronic Arts would be offering free copies of The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection to those who already owned The Sims 2 on their Origin account.

In its FAQ on the matter, EA said that the Ultimate Collection would be “only available to gamers who purchased the digital version of The Sims 2 from Origin or The EA Store.” However, as it pointed out to be last night by a friend, it seems that by using a specific redeem code everyone can download The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection via Origin.

As demonstrated in the featured image above, by putting “I-LOVE-THE-SIMS” in the client’s “Redeem Product Code” tab (via the “Origin” tab in Origin’s top-left corner), you’ll be able to receive a completely free copy of The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection, a fact that I confirmed myself when I redeemed the code and downloaded the game.

According to the source, which my friend found on Tumblr, this offer will last for one week only. After some investigating, EA actually made the announcement that The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection will be free for everyone on Wednesday, July 23. The publisher even included instructions on how to receive the game, which have been detailed below.

1. Start by downloading and installing Origin. If you already have Origin you can skip to step 3.

2. Not an Origin member? Create a free Origin Account to get in the game.

3. Launch Origin and log into your Origin Account.

4. From the ‘Games’ tab in the Origin menu, select ‘Redeem Product Code’ and enter the code

5. I-LOVE-THE-SIMS

The same procedure can be done via Origin’s official website. Furthermore, you’ll be able to download and play the game any time you’d like.

You’ll be able to redeem the code for a copy of The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection from now until Thursday, July 31 at 10am Pacific Daylight Time.
