Its hard to say which of these games had the bigger impact when they were released, but the question still remains,

Not hard at all.  Devil May Cry easily had the bigger impact when games like Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania Lament of Innocence, and God of War among many others to this day use the advancements that this game made towards the action/adventure genre.  Not only was the gameplay copied and tweaked for future titles, Devil Trigger is in a lot of these titles.  Devil Trigger is named Rage of the Gods in God of War for example.  God of War just happens to be more popular to the masses.  Less impact to gaming when it actually comes to what it offers.

Well God of War is clearly the best in it's genre, it redefined it and set a new standard for how good an action-adventure game could and should be.

I might be the only one but I'll take Onimusha. It was more entertaining to me than either DMC or GoW. It had a dark, horror-type atmosphere that made it unique. I remember loving DMC but, at the same time, it didn't really stick in my memory the same way. It was mostly mindless combat. Onimusha was closer to Resident Evil with swords.

Also:

GoW, the IMO awful camera in DmC killed it for me, never played onimusha.

I'll go with God of War, excellent gameplay and surprisingly well told story. It was set up like a classic Greek tragedy and that's right up my alley. Onimusha is a close second though.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Prefered Onimusha as well.

Also look at how realistic that panda is.

DMC (not the new crap looking one) > God of War > Onimusha 2000

Edit: Post edited by Starcraft

The original DMC was such an awesome game indeed.

I'll go for God of War despite DMC being mechanically better game. It was just so much noob friendly. I said some curse words when trying to play Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening at my friends house before putting down the controller. They did patch or introduced new normal difficulty in the special edition that was released later. Heh.

Never played Onimusha & Warlords.

Edit: Oh yea i forgot to mention those rotating spikes in Hades. As i've said before, who the hell playtested that level. Things like those makes games age like crap.

I emember the encounter with the giant spider.... He kicked my behind soooo many times.

It's mind boggling that many of you have not played the Onimusha series................ WOW.

If you can find a copy, do so. The games are awesome.

I can slightly agree with that. Devil May Cry did allot for the action game genre. I remember the awesome feeling of Ebony & Ivory launching an enemy into the sky, only to have him cut down by Alister on his way down................ Good times .......... Yes.
