Forums - Gaming Discussion - Naughty dog basically confirms last of us 2

In an interview with VideoGamer.com, a spokesperson for Naughty Dog said that they are currently considering options for another The Last of Us game.

During the interview, Naughty Dog community strategist, Arne Meyer said that it “would be a disservice to ourselves and our fans” not to explore options of continuing the franchise.

“It really comes down to is there something interesting in this universe we've created that we want to continue to explore?” Meyer continued. “Is it something that we can get the entire team passionate about? Is it something we can get the creative directors excited about and then we could continue it?”

Meyer added however that “We're just starting to explore ideas of what more could there be in this universe and starting that decision process. That doesn't mean the end result is guaranteed.”

So TLOU2 basically confirmed, hidden with the "Oui need to make sure dat oui 'ave a story to tell" blah blah

but its not that much of a suprise considering

1) sony bought last of us 2 and 3 domains for the web

2) last of us announced selling ~7 million last week

3) the remastered version is coming to ps4 so the franchise can sort of begin there to sell former non-ps owners on the ip

So yeah

btw an IGN article, since they're assholes, I didn't link to them but if you really want to read it from them and then get involved in the fanboy comment war you can easily find it

last of us 2 makes perfect sense, i shall look forward to it

All he really says is that it's something ND are looking into, which i expect everyone could already have guessed. A new IP doesn't receive almost universal acclaim, sell 7 million copies in a year and get given hundreds of GOTY rewards without the developer going "Hmm... people might like another"

TLOU2 will almost definitely happen (i sure as hell hope so anyway), but it's a looong wait away.

It also confirms that they haven't even started work on it.

I hope so

i think in 2016.

Well i'm sure the base story has been written and in the process of being fleshed out to a full story, 'cause writers usually work on 1 project at a time, and uncharted 4 is pretty much done and dusted in terms of story by Amy Hennig. Neil and Bruce would have likely written tlou2 and the techy guys' work on tlou:r and u4 are sorta almost automatically added to tlou 2 since same engine.

Plus if its not joel+ellie, they'll be auditioning actors for tlou2 incognito around now i reckon

Not necessarily.
They looked into making another Jak, but they didn't make one.
I'm sure we'll see a TLoU 2, but I wouldn't put it past them to not make one if they felt it wasn't right.

I don't think Sony want them to, or really they want to. ND have grown a lot from the old platforming days, and clearly from their last 4 titles they're looking at story telling and action adventure style games.

It'd almost be a downgrade for them to return to Jak when we now know of them as this megaton-style studio.

I hope not actually, The Last of Us and it's story would be a much more powerful experience as a stand-alone game.
