Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Sony Worried Nintendo's Plans Could Hurt PS4 Sales?

don't think so, since PS4 owners have a very different preference compared to Wii U owners

Current Consoles: Gaming PC, Wii U, 3DS

I highly doubt they are afraid of Nintendo considering that while MK8 did and does continue to sell a lot of units, its not moving too much hardware so I doubt Sonys got anything to worry about

If a single game increasing the baseline by 200% is "not moving too much hardware", then I don't know what is.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Sony... Fear... Nintendo...
Yeah, no. Really, no.

Yet the Wii easily shut them down, and Nintendo has owned them in the handheld market. But maybe you are right. Sure, sony has a lot of wins since they started back with the PS one, but you can never count Nintendo out. Something many companies should be worried about. All they did was release one highly sought after game and BOOM! Wii U is boosted for over a month. What will happen with a half a dozen highly sought after hyped games for the Wii U?

The boosts will become smaller and smaller since the anticipated games have a high overlap between each other.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

As a person who skipped PS3 and 360 up until I got one dirt cheap from a friend, they have failed to convince me to buy a PS4 yet.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

Companies ALWAYS worry about competitors.

I disagree with the idea that everyone who had a Wii is one of two types. Given the saturation that the Wii achieved, there is no that's possible. Yes, it did have a substantial casual segment but you don't have that many units sold without diversity in your installed base.

The problem for Nintendo was, A) the massive amount of momentum the Wii lost at the end of its life-cycle, and B) the Wii U did not immediately grab people. I think there was a significant amount of new gamers who had their start with the Wii, who might end up purchasing another console. Some of them were kids who might end up looking in a different direction as their preferences change.

After all, something similar has happened before. Some kids who started out with the NES and SNES shifted to Playstation as they got older. Interests can change.

Of course they are very aware of Nintendo and what they do, but I dont think theyre very worried about them right now.

Well I can't comment on the article per se but it is evident that PS4 used to be selling 150+ per week but now that X1 has the $399 and WiiU had Mario Kart, WiiU and X1 are in the 60 000's and PS4 dropped below 100 000. So their gains are at PS4's expense.
