They just decided to stop tracking it at the end of last year.  Presumably because it was selling badly.  It's still called VitaTV in Japan, so it's not a branding issue.

People can use their 3DS for most other experiences in between all the same if they got it for the MH series. Its not like the game catalogues are so vastly different, they simply have different saturations per genre but neither hand-held lacks an entire genre as far as I am aware. Vita has many exclusives in certain genres, though, but I don't know how far that would really tip things (obviously it doesn't tip them very far given how poorly the Vita has sold overall).


3DS has some huge gaping holes in it's catalogue. Racing games, FPS/TPS of a decent quality. However particularly in Japan, that's not a major issue and the Nintendo software coupled with targeted 3rd party exclusives like Monster Hunter still provide a very compelling reason to have one.

I'd go with Kotaku's slant actually, there is absolutely enough diversity between the 3DS and Vita to make them compliment each other perfectly.

It's weird seeing the Wii U stabilize above 10k, even if that's still throw-up worthy bad. The 3DS' sales are also quite bad, but it was able to stay ahead of the Vita for the week even with Vita having a big game drop.
