What is the Golden Age of Gaming??

1st Gen 6 1.09%

2nd Gen 11 2.00%

3rd Gen 26 4.73%

4th Gen 161 29.27%

5th Gen 137 24.91%

6th Gen 133 24.18%

7th Gen 58 10.55%

8th Gen 13 2.36%

Total:545

Gen 6. Reasons:
-Last gen of the old skool pre internet consoles (although they started it, it took another gen for the online platforms to mature and kick off)
-All 4 consoles had their own distinctive games
-Last gen genres were balanced out with the amount of games they got, with healthy amount of 3d platformers and rpgs
-great output from Japan
-Last time Nintendo took risks with their IPs and made diverse bigger budget games
-Also last gen with gameplay>graphics philosophy

I dunno most of today's games look like they came out of a factory made without passion, trying to hit as many "modern Western gaming concepts" checkboxes. Just looking at Ubisoft with the same AC reskin and same tired missions every year and applying their outmoded open world design to other titles like Watch Dogs and Far Cry.

lol how can people be calling the golden age of gaming at a time when the internet didnt even exist and single player games were buggy, 2-dimensional, had limited input, and overally were just so shit that most kids prefered playing outdoors instead?

I agree with above, 7th gen.

Because before then, playing outside was ALL you could do. The advent of videogaming marked alot of people.

And to be honest... there is nothing awesome about the internet that made gaming better. All it did was make the couch experience unpersonal.

7th gen isnt the best one by a long shot. The game quality is atrocious and the innovation nigh inexistant.

Online never stopped anyone from meeting. It just gave you the option to play with anyone in the world, including people who wouldnt have previously been able to meet up personally to play... and obviously it also increased competitiveness among gamers, contributing to the creation of "e-sports"

I disagree about innovation. You may not like the games but that doesnt mean they were not innovative.

the wii popularised motion gaming, and temporarily grew the market by tens of millions, while the 360 increased the standard of online capabilities consoles should have, and the PS3 emphasised user generated content with their 'play create share' philosophy that made its way into many of its games. A shit ton of new successful IP's were also launched so there also wasnt any doubt about creative innovation. Then theres things we take for granted now that were standardised last gen, like wireless controllers and USB ports.
