Either novel or polished/refined gameplay. I look for new experiences, but for recurring franchises or throwbacks, they should at least be making steps forward.

IT DEPENDS ON THE GAME, for me every game has an idea behind it that its trying to fully realize, for some games that idea is a great story, for some others its gameplay, for some others is about creating this world with a great lore and making you care about the characters etc etc.

Take Uncharted 2 for example, that's a game focused on its Characters, Story and Gameplay (so i will value this aspects of the game) while still nailing it in other areas like graphics and some technical achievements.
