Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If Wii U had a different name would sales be higher?

They trademarked Zii. Should have used that.

Wii u is a very confusing name.

It's too similar to the original name Wii.

Sales would be much higher if the console had a different name.

Kind of like the United Kingdom. If the United Kingdom would just use a different name, then people wouldn't confuse them as being part of the United States all the time.

 Wii and Wii u

Is the same as Playstation and Playstation u

It's almost the same and it's very confusing,

Sony was smart enough to call their new console playstation2 and not playstation u

When sony released playstation 2 i immediately knew sony has a new console.

When Nintendo released Wii u i thought it is a peripheral and not a new console.

You can be sure many buyers also got confused and didn't buy the console because of that.

Maybe it will.
a lot of people dont even know the wiiu is a new system instead of an upgrade.

Nintendo should pick a good name for their new console.

For their next console.

Let's pretend the Wii U was called the "Nintendo Ultra." Would sales be a lot higher, a little higher, or the same? I highly doubt it could get any worse. I know too that sales wouldn't be that much higher but maybe it wouldn't of crossed the line in America and still be above the PS4 as of now? I don't know you guys tell me I honestly think it would have been selling more along the lines of the XBOX One if it had a different name.

Maybe marginally, but not much

The problem isn't the name, its the system and its the games.  The day it was announced I knew it would flop hard, its basically the GCN on steroids in every way
