List wars really just need to stop. Having the higher number of games on a console does not make a console better. Having the most exclusives on a console does not make a console better. Having the most indie games does not make a console better. Having the most retail games does not make a console better. This list could go on but in the end having the best console comes down to preference.
I for one take great offense to people trying to claim elitism on forums by making a list. More often than not these lists doesn’t even tell the whole truth and people will use these lists as nothing more than a propaganda to say my console is the best.
As an example of this we could say, Microsoft is coming out with 30 exclusives this year. This does not mean they’re 30 quality exclusives, all it means is there is 30 games coming. And I see a lot of people on forums trying to argue this over and over, example as of last year when Microsoft said they had X amount of exclusives in the first year and Sony saying they had Y amount of exclusives coming this year.
Ive also been hearing a lot of people lately say that metacritic is unimportant and as long as one person likes a game you cant say that game doesn’t count, and really nobody said a game doesn’t count but a lot of people view certain games as unimportant or not important enough to invest $400-$500 for. And well you can say that is wrong for people to say that game is unimportant but people judge, it is in our nature and we do it every single day. So we can defend it as much as we want but when a lot of people see a metacritic low, people will judge it as a bad game. And when people see indies and Retail games, people will judge them to be of different quality. This does not mean that indies are bad. It does not mean that games with a score lower than 70 is going to be the worst game you’ve ever played. In fact anybody can enjoy these games, but in the end people has judged these games as unimportant. When a game has a lower meta, it usually just means that there is a lower chance of you liking it. The same can be said about ports and kinect games which has garnered a lot of attention lately. Again, its not that these games are bad, but the core gamers usually care for big AAA games over Indie/Kinect games. And I think most people are putting $400-$500 into these new consoles on the promise of these big AAA games. I think this is one of the reasons this argument keeps coming up.
Elitism is one of the worst things on forums and whether you like Xbox, PS4, or WiiU this is a problem within all three fanbases. The whole truth is very rarely talked about which is usually caused by a propaganda. We choose to ignore things and feel like what we have chosen to believe is the only right thing in the world. There is some quality games out on all three consoles such as Infamous Second Son, Forza 5, Super Mario 3D World, Killer Instinct, Resogun, Dead Rising 3, KIllzone, and the list goes on. However I don’t see a reason to brag about games such as Lococycle, Knack, and Rabbids Land which all boasts a 50 metacritic. And again you can say well some people enjoy these games, in fact I know some people who do, and metacritic may have some flaws but the majority of the people prob aren’t the biggest fans of these games and see no reason to go out and buy them.
So why am I bringing all this up? To show you that the whole truth isn’t always presented. At the end of the day you, and only you can tell yourself what you like the most. However looking at things subjectively rather than behind glasses you should be able to tell why some people say the things they do. Things shouldn’t always be taken so literally. People say things about Xbox One not running most games at 1080p because we are in 2014. Its understandable, I don’t agree with the over-reactions, but it is understandable. Not everything needs to be defended, and not everything needs to be attacked. It goes both ways.
You may not agree with what I have to say on the subject but I will say that list wars are pointless. Whether it be today, yesterday, or a year from now they should stop. I know they won’t but it would be nice. People are going to like what they like. There is big factors and small factors and i think it is important to view other people's perspectives rather than just dismissing them as we so often see regardless of the subject.
