Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Has Nintendo been cancelling Directs? if so, why?

I imagine it partly comes down to wanting things to talk about at E3, but also I'd imagine that, for the investors, Directs just aren't "worth" it. Look at their financial scenario and the sales of their latest systems. It would seem as though these directs; whilst good for fans; aren't helping the sales of their system.

So I imagine they're going to wind down the formal into having directs about individual games only eventually, and make announcements throughout the year as other companies do.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Well we saw how well announcing everything before E3 worked for them last year...

My dear Cobretti2 here is speaking the truth! <3

Yep. The new trailers and information about already announced games which could fit on a Direct is saved to fill the E3.

Honestly, game specific Directs are better, more focused, and rarely disappointing. You already know what to expect and they give you what you want. Last month had two game directs, and they were both phenomenal. They should do directs like that from now on.

Probably cause they realized that e3 is important so they should save the good stuff for that

This shouldn't even be considered a legit answer at the moment...

Well in theory  this is a legit answer. If nintendo just has nothing to show they have nothing to talk about but thats not the case imho.

What is more likely is that they simply decided to keep things secret  therefore the restult is still  "nothing to talk about".

So its actually a legit answer.

I mean they could have had a Smash 3DS direct in march and a Wiiu direct in april but they decided to have them 2in1. They also had the tomodachi life direct in april  so they basically had 2 directs.   Thes simply decided to do it that way.

Because they know they're already not keeping their promises, why make any more?

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

They have mentioned E3 multiple times already. They are saving stuff for then.

My thoughts exactly. Those game-specific Directs went a long way in terms of hyping Smash and Tomodachi... much more than a 5-minute trailer would on a normal Direct.
