This would be great since FFXV is a stupid button mashing action game and by no means a real Final Fantasy.

FFXV will be great. My main concerns are it was announced in 2006 as a FFXIII spin-off for PS3 and it now graphically looks like a upscaled PS3 game. It doesn't look like it's pushing current-gen hardware. I hope that FFXVI is graphically on par with Agni's Philosophy.

FFXV is one of the best looking current gen games atm, idk how you think it looks like an upscaled PS3 game.  Go on youtube and compare FF Versus 13 to FFXV, the difference is night and day.

FFXV doesn't look good for current-gen. I suggest you look at the visuals for Agni's Philosophy and compare them to FFXV. The difference is night and day.

That's just one long cutscene...if your gonna say something looks significantly better at least use an actual game.

You were claiming this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBilT83Uq4A

is an upscaled version of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ7MwTXYLpg

That is a ridiculous claim.  Put the visuals aside and the scale of FFXV trumps FF Versus 13, look at the difference in the size of the battle areas.

This news makes me happy. FF IX and XII were my favorites :D

Agni's Philosophy graphics were real-time. I expect visuals like that from the FF for PS4. FFXV doesn't come close to having visuals on that level. The graphics look on par with the PS4 version of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The PS4 version of Battlefield 4 has way better graphics than FFXV.

I'd prefer Yoshinori Kitase, but Hiroyuki Ito is acceptable. Just keep Toriyama away from the series.

Kitase? No thanks. That man is one of the main reasons FFXIII was so terrible. I'd rather both him and Toriyama didn't work on any new mainline FF games. I'd rather they instead focused on FFX-3 and a FFVII Remake.

They are going trilogy on FFXV, pretty sure that no other main serie FF game is being developped right now.

Did you even read the OP?

I already covered in the first paragraph how I made this thread to show people that current-gen (PS4/One) will not revolve around FFXV trilogy like last-gen (PS3/360) did with the FFXIII trilogy. Also, if you read all the points I provided in the OP, you'll see it's obvious that Ito is secretly working on FFXVI for release this gen.

I just don't see the point in releasing two series at the same time. They already said they needed to make any main FF a trilogy to justify the costs of a AAA J-RPG.

I mean, what would happen, they would release FFXV, then XVI, then XV-2, etc ? Or try to go for yearly releases ?

FF13 cost so much because of the engine changing and the fact they had to pull resources off other games to finish it. I don't think they'll go the trilogy route as main entries for a while.

You do realize that they've developed multiple FFs at the same time in the past? The cost is absolutely irrelevant, because the older FFs cost $30-60 million to develop as well.

You really have an obsession for this topic. I think it's the only thing you talk about on VGC.

That being said, I like what you've gathered here in the OP.

I share your enthusiasm for a potential new FF game directed by Ito. Since he's my favourite game director at S-E right now, and I, too, believe he's the one capable of bringing the series quality to what it was prior to Kitase shitting it all up.

In my opinion, he's responsible for the 3 best titles in the series, all of them having unique qualities (FF VI, IX and XII). And I like that he focuses on the gameplay aspects of his games, rather than on the flashy aspects. I am currently replaying XII and the game is very well crafted, even if the control input from the player are a little lacking (you don't press enough buttons, often enough).

In any case, I do hope your guess that he'll direct FF XVI will turn out to be true.

I welcome the idea, all 3 of those other games he directed were superb. If SquEnix knew what they were doing they'd make new FF titles every 2-3 years, this is what customers want, not sequals to unpopular franchise entries. FFX-2 sold less than FFXII even when FFXII came out at the end of the generation and more recently, FFXHD sold as much as Lightning Returns in Europe/RoW. FF gamers want new/traditional titles.

Hmm, pie.

Thanks for the compliment.

Personally, I hope that Square Enix can get a new mainline FF released every 2 years from now on.

  • 2015: FFXV
  • 2017 (Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary): FFXVI

I disagree there, I like XV's graphics more than both AC4 and BF4. That being said, it is essentially equivalent to a cross-gen game since it's development switched from PS3 and many PS3 assets are being reused and improved. Obviously XVI's graphics wil be better though since it'll be true next-gen.

Have you seen Battlefield 4 running on PS4? The graphics murder what we've seen of FFXV. It's not even close. I'd say the graphics of Battlefield 4 are closer to Agni's Philosophy than they are to FFXV. The reason I'm more interested in FFXVI than FFXV is because it will built from the ground-up for PS4/One and therefore have visuals on par with Agni's Philosophy.
