Forums - Gaming Discussion - What made you choose a new console?

This is something that I really don't understand, be it people getting the PS instead of the N64 or Saturn or people getting the Xbox instead of the Dreamcast, PS2 or GC.

Because, from my point of view the logical choice would be to get a Saturn or N64 in the 5th generation, and not a PS1. And the logical choice for the 6th generation would be to get a Dreamcast, GC or PS2 and not an Xbox. Because, those brands are already established and you know which games you will get with the Nintendo, Sega and later on Sony brand consoles. When people made a choice in the 5th generation they knew they would get Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. well known games for Nintendo, and Sonic etc. for the Sega systems. If they bought PS1 they really had no idea which games would come, if they would be good etc. etc. And sames goes with the 6th generation, you really had no idea how good the Xbox would be in the end, how many good or bad games there would be.

So my questions are:

1. What made you buy a completely new system and not one of the old/known already established ones?
2. Would you do it again, buy a Samsung, Google, Apple, Amazon console instead of Nintendo, Sony or MS in the future?
3. Why didn't you buy Ouya?

I've never bought one at launch. What drove me to get the xbox or PS1 was after launch when everyone else was saying how cool they were.

Wii U: Backwards compatibility, and Nintendo exclusives
Xbox One: Loved he 360, enjoyed what their message of the "all in one" box. Controller, UI, 3rd party, etc. My preferred console last gen (360)
PS4: Varied exclusives, and Japanese exclusives.

For me buying new consoles meant knowing what I was going to get in the future, I knew what to expect for the most part in buying these consoles.

Still on PS3, the new stuff suxz.

Did people read the OP -_-
Anyway at launch I guess its coz people out there want the new tech regardless (especially from Sony back then) but eventually they have software that shows they are worth the purchase.
As for me I had an N64 and then a PS2 so... yeah fuck the new hardware =P

I got a PS1 because my friend owned one and I played at his house a lot and that gave me the push to go for a PS1 over any other system. Plus I was like 6 at the time so I didn't know any of the other consoles LOL.

Haven't bought one yet but I will be getting a PS4, for the simple fact that it has the best games that run better than the competitions platform.

Had N64, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube all at one point because there were too many awesome games I didn't want to miss out on, but eventually they become obselete. I'd get a PS4 before I ever get a PS3 because I heard its way too slow and I can barely handle 360's slow speed after being on X1. Hopefully PSNow establishes well enough to not even have to deal with a PS3 to get the awesome games.

It's just the beginning xmb that is slow...and tbh it's not even that slow. I can go from XMB to playing a game in a minute.

I got my Bro a Dreamcast for his Bday and was going to get one for me later, but then they stopped making them (I had a sad.)

Then when I got back into consoles with the Wii, it was lots of fun.

When the Xbox One was coming out, I wanted one, but made the choice not to get one. Then things started going better and I had a sort of last minute chance to get a Day One so I jumped on it. I know I would have felt so left out reading about people playing with it and would have had another sad.

It's been fun. I've gotten more into gaming over the last few years. This site is partially responsible. :D

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!
