Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft stock surges to 14 year high. Market cap up $12bn in 1 day to $327bn, edit: up $20bn in 3 days to $335bn

Well the office for Ipad and Windows/Android hybrid phones have a lot of potential to bring in growth. MS breaking down borders and finally profiting off the competitions success.

Their April Q3 report will be very interesting. Hopefully Xbox remains in the black.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I only have 55 shares in MSFT but I bought in at $29 and have made a solid $600 so far. AMD is the company I'm really banking on right now. Hoping sales for all 3 (Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft) are great this year.

Im pretty sure this happend because of Don Mattrick

This means they're going to sell Xbox division right :S (sarcasm)

Never really cared much for stocks or share prices I've always seen them as some indicator that a company is doing quite well.

up 4% because of talk for office on ipads?
Sounds like a bit too much tbh. Or am I missing something?

So in one day..they gained 70% of Sony's whole Market cap? lol

Not unsurprising really as Microsoft has more than doubled its revenues over the last ten years and its earnings have more than quadrupled over the same period. So you have to wonder why the stock hasn't increased earlier and by even more.

I guess the market likes the new leader. Anyhow, all good for stock holders.

Doom indeed.

The problem of the stock price stems back to 2000 and the internet bubble. Everyone else crashed, MS crashed too, but even after the drops it was still trading at a PE many times the rest of the market and many times realistic value of the company. It has taken best part of 10 years to grow into their share value, now they are perhaps a little undervalued but the preceding 10 years of no share price growth (even though the company itself has grown massively) is holding back some investors. You will still see articles whining about how bad Balmer did based on the share price even though he presided over some of the most successful growth years in the companies history.

This is a good time to sell shares because the best investment strategy is always to buy after a crash and to sell at a peak.

Windows 8 fails,
PC market is dying
Windows Phone fails
Xbox division is not running well and may be sold to another company soon.

The only thing that is running good for MS is Android FAT patent licences which are up to 5$ per phone using a microsoft compatible FAT file system on SDcard. Samsung and many other companies have agreed to pay for them.
