Some easy steps how to get 3-star ranks on MKWii:

- Grab a medium sized character and the Mach Bike;
- Do practise time trials with them to get the hang of it;
- Open Youtube and look for the shortcuts;
- Learn how to avoid POW Blocks;
- Try to stay in first position most of the race;
- Inflict damage as much as you can... bananas/fake ? block etc on boost ramps and so on;

Try to do the race in your fastest possible time and enjoy your 3-star rank! 

Lol.  I am still quite upset you won that 2nd GP in the American League.  Deprived me of a well deserved clean sweep of wins.

A thing to say for people don't know how to unlock the last character,

It's "Rosalind or Rosalinda" (depends on the region) from Super Mario Galaxy, and you must have a saved game from Super Mario Galaxy enter in the game, less going to the start screen and enter and you have unlocked her.

Lol I agree.  The difference is that this game is as much fun with random people as it is with friends (unless you can get at least 6 people together at the same time - which is what the GPs are for) so if you want to play you might as well just go online and play.  With Brawl the online element is non existent unless you are playing with friends so people need the thread to ask who is around to play and then discuss the battles afterwards. 

Aiming for 3 stars.
