Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One for £349.99 (UK)

Its obvious that if you purchase a console first, you will be paying more than people who purchase it later..... but an £80 difference in just 3-4 months? wow...

and does anyone know why they are cheap? MS offering discounts or is it just maplin trying to get rid of stock they cant sell at RRP?

I wonder how sony will react if more retailers start selling XB1 for ~£350. Maybe PS4 will get a UK price drop too?

This is just Maplins, probably trying to move stock. I don't think most people think of Maplins for consoles tbh.

Yup, same price as a PS4. The RRP was already ridiculous to begin with in the UK, but I wonder why we're the only ones getting price cuts.

This isn't an official price cut. The RRP in the UK is still GBP399.

An RRP of £399 is still a price cut. An unofficial one on top of that is just a bonus.

I think because Microsoft already gave up on the rest of europe and are making everything possible to hold you guys in with america. Its true the UK is the european state closer to the US, but the English are still european. They have similar buttons to the americans but they have european buttons aswell. I dont think they will suceed only pushing those american buttons.

As americans they dont understand that europeans live and die by football, per se. And its not the one played with the hands. That and price, because life is harder in europe than in the US.

It will be difficult for them to win when the PS4 is cheaper and is advertised on every Champions League match. Those FIFA sales are gonna go on the Playstation.

So the previous price cut didn't moved consoles? Stores needs to make new deals over the price cut?

This is not a official price cut, it's a cut done by the company in question to move stock which is sitting in their warehouse costing them lots of money.

Dont get excited Maplin is a small outlet, its an electronic circuitry store, certainly not known for selling games consoles, unless theyve really branched out in the last 2 years.

My guess is they thought they would get some sales at launch and now there just getting rid, they certainly have never sold video games in any of the stores ive been too.

Yeah I started noticing this recently and I think it really does help, with the amount of people that watch the CL.

@OP the console for £350 is the same price you are paying for the console if you buy the Titanfall bundle for £400. I'm guessing they're trying to sell their Xbones at £350 because people are starting to only buy the Titanfall bundle.

True......... never seen a Maplin selling games consoles either. (extra p*ssed at the Maplin near me, as it replaced a store that sold Video games)

Xbox One has finally fallen in to my "buy" price range with this offer.

Now if only i could replace Titanfall with Dead Rising 3 or Forza 5.

Yep, never said anything to the contrary. In terms of why UK is getting a price cut your original RRP was the highest price in the world, except probably South America. This is also true for PS4 (GBP349=USD583). And I think even at 399 UK price for Xb one is still most expensive (NZ price for XB one = 749 (which includes all taxes) = GBP379). So UK official price cut to 379 would make the price even with the NZ price. For PS4 to be even with the NZ price (649) the UK price would have to drop to 329. The NZ price for both consoles are 27%(Xb one) and 37%(PS4) above the US price. And given we pay 15% sales tax this means the actual MSRP difference is 12% and 22%. That's actually a similar price differential to PS3 at launch, but from memory PS2 was way in excess of the US price. And for a low volume market that's not terrible. It also means Sony is probably profiting off each PS4 they sell in NZ even before a game or PS+ subscription is sold. Looks to me like USA is a loss leader market for PS4, and every other maket is subsidising that loss, which rips my undies a little bit.

The fact that both PS4 and Xb one are both pretty evenly over priced in the UK (at least as Xb one's original launch price) suggests there's something more that greedy price gouging going on. Or perhaps not, perhaps Sony and MS both know they can fleece the British population for more money than they can elsewhere. Will be interesting to see if Sony responds with, perhaps not an official price cut, but some sort of officially sanctioned retailer price specials. I guess it all depends on how the UK market responds to Xb one and how important Sony sees being number 1 in that market. My guess is that Sony has its global pricing mapped out for most of the projected generation and only some sort of sales disaster will get it to change that.
