Forums - Gaming Discussion - Killzone ShadowFall Multiplayer runs at only 960 x 1080 resolution

So what I want to know is, does it take more power to push 960 x 1080 over 792p?

Is it all about the pixel count or..........what?

Nope its never just about the pixel account. Many other things need to be taken into account such as lighting, AI, effects etc.

Its much easier to run an old game at 4k - 8k resolution than a modern game like Crysis 3 at "only" 1080p. There's many other factors of performance than simply resolution. The only reason I made the earlier Titanfall comment was I have observed with my own eyes people saying that Xbox One is a poor system due to resolution alone, even being as bold as saying anything under 1080p or 900p is a disaster. I simply brought that up as a bit of jab to these kinds of people that put their entire enjoyment on a console based on just resolution.

To be honest it does show how good Guerilla was at hiding it. I usually find myself pretty good at spotting resolution differrences and even I didn't pick up on it.  I knew something was "off" but figured it was like I said a really bad usage of FXAA.

It's probably because most have become accustomed to measuring pixels by way of vertical resolution which is where stepping and aliasing are generally the most noticeable.

I think you mean horizontal.

Hey as long as it looks good most people won't notice the difference... except for those looking for 1080p/60 that is. One curious thing is when an X1 game don't hit 1080p, it looks like every other article on N4G is saying how true next gen is 1080p/60 and NOTHING less and the comments are in the hundreds supporting that. Given this is *the* crown jewel game and it didn't hit in multi-player, I don't see even a single article about it. Ofcourse I don't think it makes the PS4 and less of next gen but just saying.

Depends. The 792p resolution can use the built-in hardware upscaler to generate 1080p output.
960x1080 requires the software to blend the new image with the previous image to create the 1920x1080 final buffer. There probably is some kind of extra work going into it as otherwise you would see 2 distinct overlapping images while you're turning. You see some ghost images on screenshots but not entire structures or edges replicated, so there must be some algorithm analyzing the image to decide what to blend and what to interpolate. It's made me curious enough to give multiplayer a shot tonight, just to check out how their algorithm works. It's not a simple horizontal upscale like GT6's 1440x1080, can't be a complete blend either.

So yes, it probably takes more power in the form of an extra blending step.

Furthermore halving resolution far from guarantees double performance, that's what the article where this new resolution gate came from, is all about.

Going for an interlaced approach pretty much keeps everything the same apart from alternatively rendering the odd and even columns. The textures and draw distance still need to be up to par for a 1080p field of view. So it's even less of a performance gain than dropping down to 792p where you can dial back the level of detail.

Hehe.

It's worse than a lie becuase it actually has some truth to it. It's more of a trick than a lie.

They are the ODST (Orbital Drop Sony Troopers). Part of the UNSC (United Nations Sony Council).

6vs6 is not plentyful at all, it could be 12vs12 without bots and it would be fun and not a mess.

Still, Xone is +200% more powerful than old gen but it is unable to render an old gen game on an old engine  at 1080p or 60 fps whereas there is only 6vs6 players  ( fact is the beta wasnt fluid at all and was even less smooth than KZ mp according to DF  )

Did you play the beta? There is plenty of action with just 6vs6 and the bots barely play a roll. If they were going to do 12vs12, it would need even larger maps.

If you need some sort of proof the X1 can do more modern visuals with a higher player count, go play BF4.

Wow how strange is that, having the horizontal resolution but leaving the vertical resolution the same?

Never heard of that before.
