Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U's eDRAM stronger than given credit?

Oh look, it's MisterXMedia all over again. Didn't know there is such a moron in the WiiU camp, too..
And yes, 550MHz*1024bit is 560 gigaBITS/s, NOT gigaBYTES/s....

With the magic of tile SDK, WiiU to be almost 3x faster than XBox One! It will be running games in 2160p no problem.

Edit: Oh wait drkohler: 550MHz*1024bit is 560 gigaBITS/s, NOT gigaBYTES/s.... so erm 1/3 the XBox One, 270p then!

Sure. Because the only thing needed to get pixels on the screen is RAM.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I've kinda gotten over hoping that the Wii U has some sort of hidden power but when I see things like Donkey Kong in DKC: TF and that awesome fur, I believe again. I hope somebody out there pushes the U to the limit.

Actually there's someone here on vgchartz who believes that the WII U has a 8192bit bus width for the eDRAM but I'm not gonna point names ...

One thing should be obvious by now - Wii U has some modern architecture that requires proper usage - simple porting is not easy and rewarding due to lacks in CPU.
Still, no matter how much power there actually is, Nintendo is perfect at pushing their realtively weak machines to the limit.
Remember Super Mario Galaxy 2? Donkey Kong on SNES? Golden Sun on both GBA and DS? Metroid on Wii?
The best looking title so far (SM3dW to me) is almost like a launch title. I cant wait to see what they will bring in 3-4 years.
I'd say that those slightly above ps360 specs are more than needed in Nintendo's eyes. I'd say to them it's on par with ps4 (although it certainly isn't.)
I mean, how many times have we heard 3rd party devs quacking about not enough power?

The article is crap. Sound almost like that fat trucker on YouTube.
Too much speculation and the part about power consumption was total bs. The console needs the same amount of power with Nintendo games.

Is it hard for people believe that Wii U has 8 macros(seperate blocks) of eDRAM each having 4 MB and have 1024bits which should be nowadays easy to produce than ever before? If it was a single huge macro of 32MB with 8192 bits then I would have serious doubt it as it would probably be very difficult to achieve, but since Chipworks has released die shot of Wii U's GPU more than a year ago, we can obviously see 8 macros and for reference Xbox One has two macros, each has 16 MB.

*Only for Nintendo's first party games

The big question is how the chips are setup on the bus that talks to it. If the 4MB eDRAM chips are setup to work in single mode then the performance will be 1x1024bits. If they are setup in multi channel mode then the performance jumps up to a theoretical 8x 1024bits. The problem is NO ONE KNOWS other then Nintendo.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
