Forums - Sony - Is Sony holding back PS4 units for March in the west?

We all seem to be assuming Sony is holding back units for the Japan launch, but are they also holding back units for March in the west? There are two reasons why I believe they are.

1: Titanfall

It's a big game. Don't deny it. Many gamers will be buying XBONEs because that's been their plan all along, but other gamers will buy the system because the PS4 is out of stock. We've already heard stories of this around launch, so I think the same thing applies when the competition brings out a huge game. People wanting PS4s but waiting to find one could be pushed to the other camp.

2: Infamous

It's a big game. Don't deny it. Many gamers will be wanting to buy PS4s because a good game (excluding Knack) is finally coming out. If it wasn't for supply issues we'd expect a big bump from the game. We all know the PS4 systems themselves will sell everything Sony ships, but having stock in March verses Feb can help infamous gain a lot more sales. Also tying back into Titanfall, beating XBONE for monthly sales certainly wouldn't be a bad thing.

Highly doubtful ... Sony knows that they need to capitalize on the launch of the PS4 in NA. They know that the rest of the territories will fall like dominoes towards the PS4 seeing as how xbox has no chance of claiming europe and they also don't have jack shit to even compete against playstation in Japan.

I wouldn't call it holding back, but stocking up. For Japan, yes, there is a high expectation of sales for launch and they need consoles immediately there. By inFamous second son's release they will have the opportunity to resupply, especially after the initial Japan numbers, whether they sell out there and trickle consoles in to hold strong elsewhere or taper off in Japan freeing up more PS4s to distribute.

I don't really think there will be heavy shortages elsewhere after the Japan launch goes through, even if there is little time in between an important software launch. Chances are they already have the consoles in place for Japan, meaning shortages now in NA and EU are due to demand and Japan supply needs. It will be fine after.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I dunno, i believe they'll have enough stock in the US by march to cover the demand.

I think by the end of March there will be more supply than demand in the US so they don't really have to hold back much. Unless of course the Japan launch goes crazy and Sony has to ship additional units there.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

That makes no sense, Because March will be so competetive they'll have to try and sell as many now while competitors are at their most vulnerable,

No. Its had surge of stock every week.

Neither is a "big" game, they are merely the ONLY worthy games coming soon.

Uncharted and Halo will be big games.

and NO

They want to increase the gap against Xbox One before Titanfall comes out. I'm pretty sure there will be supply issues in japan because of that. So I don't think they are doing the same in the west.

You lost me when you said Knack was a good game.
