Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 still not catching to demand???

foodfather said:
Why are these threads still being made. Isn't it obvious that Sony just didn't make enough units.

Any time XBO sells out (Game a few days ago) it gets restocked quickly as Game now has pretty much all of the XBO bundles in stock.

Any time a PS4 bundle sells out, it can take up to a week, even more to restock it.

Did you really think it through before making that comment??

MS announced 3.9 millions xbox one shipped. Meaning as of February 1st they still have over 400,000 on the shelves.

Ps4 is only behind 600,000 ok the Wii U within less than 4 months after it's release.

Ps4 is ahead of the Wii when you compare thier launch.

And you are saying:"Isn't it obvious that Sony just didn't make enough units."

So, why prices at eBay and others secondhand markets are going down by the weekly basis?

You really don't understand demand, do you?

Do you??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supply_and_demand

The four basic laws of supply and demand are:[1]:37

  1. If demand increases and supply remains unchanged, a shortage occurs, leading to a higher equilibrium price.
  2. If demand decreases and supply remains unchanged, a surplus occurs, leading to a lower equilibrium price.
  3. If demand remains unchanged and supply increases, a surplus occurs, leading to a lower equilibrium price.
  4. If demand remains unchanged and supply decreases, a shortage occurs, leading to a higher equilibrium price

Oh I do, don't worry. Tell me, have ebay prices reached retail prices yet?

They haven't dipped below $450 since the PS4 launched (when I said "breaking even" in my prior post, I meant when you factor in paypal fees and shipping, not that they sold for $400 on ebay). But I guess his M.O. is that "they used to sell for $600 on eBay and now they're "only" selling for $520+. Demand has gone down!" even though it's still 30% higher than MSRP meaning demand is still really high.

I have a suspicion that scalpers are affecting the availabilit of the console more than I would considered it helthy.

There are too many Ebayers pricing the PS4 at 450 to 500 and some with games and PS+ bundles.

There isn´t any general market rush to get the console, prices are much lower than PS3, Wii and 360 reached at their respective launch February.

.....sure.

Point is, Ebay prices haven't reached retail prices yet, which means retail supply for the PS4 still has not caught up with demand. Simple as that.

Bold #1: I don't think you understand how capitalism works. It's pretty self correcting. Even if a bunch of scalpers started hoarding the product and making them scarce in stores, when people go on eBay for example and see 10,000 PS4s on there, they're not gonna bid one up a whole bunch because there's other listings. If they can't find one in stores and on top of that, only 200 units are on ebay, then they'll bid them up because there's way less supply (and that people actually aren't scalping the product since there aren't a whole bunch being listed).

Bold #2 and yet it sells out pretty much immediately whenever stock is available. A product constantly selling out as soon as its available not indicating a "market rush to get the item" can only exist in Bizarro world.

Sony needs to build up inventory for the Japanese release. That, in combination with a still high demand in the west, restricts the availability of PS4 in western stores. The fact that Sony still manages to sell 150 000-200 000 systems per week in the west while also building up inventory for the Japanese launch suggests Sony has increased their production more than we have been told between the lines in various company statements. I wouldn't rule out Sony being able to sell 800 000-1 million PS4 in Japan this quarter, and still manage to sell an additional 800 000-1 million systems in the west. That would lead to sales of 6,7-7,1 million systems by the end of March if Sony really has managed to increase production. My prediction from December, based in part on Sony's own statements at the time, was 5,5-6,5 million systems sold by the end of March 2014. PS4 clearly is a massive success.

Agreed.

And I think that is because the sheer number of scalpers creating a artificial extra demand in the official market.

If there were a widestread shortage "gray market" prices would be as high as they were back in 2006/2007.

If I trusted a little more in VGChartz software number I would say that Xone SW leading USA is a clue to the scalpers effects in sales.

Even the overpriced (+12%) PS4 consoles are selling out very fast in Denmark. So it's currently more expensive to buy a PlayStation 4 then pre-ordering an Xbox One.

Don't copy random editorials.

The lead is only due the more retail exclusives...

1.5m vs 600k.

If you remove that the PS4 sold more because the retail 3rd-party sold more on PS4.
