Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tacked on MP or MP only?

When I game I play:

Single player only/mostly 71 79.78%

Multi player only/mostly 4 4.49%

MP and SP about equally 12 13.48%

Total:87

Here's my thought...

Buy whatever game you wanna play and quit worrying about games that don't appeal to you.

There are tons of games on the market that appeal to difference audiences.  There are games for single player, multiplayer, and everything inbetween.
If all games shift and cater to one type of audience, that's when you should complain or take your money to a new hobby.

Some games are meant for Multiplayer, some are meant for singleplayer. Few games do both well. Argument over either or is like arguing over which is better, FPS or JRPG. Shouldnt matter, some people enjoy different things than others and both has an audience. In other words, dont say something is better than the other as you dont = the world. Person A might like MP better than SP.  Does that make him evil?  No.  Same goes vice versa.  If you dont want a MP game only then dont get it and move on.  Again, same goes vice versa.

Depends. I feel Naughty Dog have been doing a good job lately of juggling SP with MP. Whereas with something like Spec Ops: The Line, the MP feels like a detriment to the overall package. It's a risk that's up to the devs and publishers I suppose. Personally I leave the MP portion of a game after the first few weeks of purchase, if not days. Perhaps I'm a dying breed.

pffft....I didn't even pay $60 for it. I got it used off Half.com for like $35. I get what you're trying to say, but now you're getting into paying for a game twice to get the whole experience.....and then paying again to be able to play it online since online MP is behind a paywall for Sony and MS now. No way, bro

but what defines the "whole experience"?

if titianfall is a "whole experience" why isn't halo 2x experiences?!   titanfall's MP doesn't seem like it had more content than the MP portion of halo.  halo's SP campain isn't half-assed either.   so why is titanfall worth the full price with only half the content?

The goal is to find consumers that feel Titanfall is worth the price of admission. Not give people everything they feel they are entitled to for $60.

Does anyone know the story of Mario Kart? Or do people just play it to have fun?

I just finished Tombraider and I wish they had spend their time creating tombs instead of a multiplayer mode. I'm not planning on touching the multiplayer mode and the hidden tombs were a joke, one little puzzle each, more insult than paying homage to the origin of the series.

I pretty much only play online in racing games. There it doesn't really take anything away from single player, it's the exact same assets after all. It does seem to have killed split screen in a lot of titles :(

Online focused multiplayer shooters are not for me, I simply ignore them. No CoD, BF, or Titanfall. Halo and Killzone just for the campaign, only Resistance 2's 8 player coop mode won me over for a few weeks.

Multiplayer should never be by itself unless it has insane content but by then it would probably be an MMO.

Multiplayer only is fine, if that is what the game was designed for. When I played it, I had fun with MAG but with games like MAG they are locked in their status of online only. They are no different to MMOs in reality and should be treated as such.

Tacked on Multiplayer can be a sin though. Uncharted 2's multiplayer, while fun for it's novelty wasn't the main appeal I had for the game, the Single Player was. In Uncharted 3, I didn't even touch the multiplayer once. Yet Mass Effect 3? My god, why even bother, it had microtransactions, no real point and worst of all it affect the single player. I couldn't believe they did this. A single player game where playing online changed the outcome. Totally disrespectful and disgraceful.

Hmm, pie.

that's a great example actually.   i just finished tomb raider on sunday and didn't touch the MP either.   those tombs were a joke.   overall a great game and i don't regret the $20 i spent on it but some more side missions/tombs would have been soo much more appreciated than a terrible MP mode.
