Forums - Gaming - Rumors: Microsoft Wants to Annualize Halo, Leaks Controlled Because of Low January Numbers

Famousmortimer (Pete Dodd) had a couple of comments about why the barrage of MS leaks occurred, and MS’ intention of annualizing the Halo franchise.

Pete thinks that the reason for the waterfall of leaks of upcoming Xbox One projects and plans is a damage control-response by Microsoft to distract people from noticing the lower sales numbers of the Xbox One in the first two weeks of January.

Chris P. @ChrisLikesDinos

@atPeteDodd Good read. Could you clarify why the NPDs & TitanFall XB1 make you think controlled leak?

@ChrisLikesDinos Microsoft's internal numbers for the first two weeks in January were well below their projections.

As far as annualizing the Halo series, Pete seems to have inside knowledge about the matter that Microsoft has always had this strategy in their plans, but he wasn’t sure how they would pull this off. Considering the recent information leak that Halo 2 Anniversary is coming out this year, annualizing the series could make sense with minor/remake titles coming out between big iteration releases (Halo 5 and onwards).

@atPeteDodd Ahhh, I see. I agree that it mostly felt like a controlled leak. However, detailing Halo 2 including Halo 3+4 makes me question

@ChrisLikesDinos I've heard for a few months that they wanted to annualize Halo but I didn't understand how. Remakes in-between explains it.

I'm sorry about the tweets

Remakes in between explains it?

This guy is retarded.

What will they remake next then? ODST? How are we still taking this guy seriously?

Haven't they already been coming out with a Halo game every year since Halo 3.

Edit:  Already pretty much annualized

Halo 3 Definitive Edition.

It wouldn't surprise me tbh. I'd commented before that Halo 5 and 6 would have gaps in between, with Halo 2 and 3 remakes surely to happen. Maybe we'll see ODST+Reach and possibly Halo Wars 2 this gen.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I think someone should tell smart guy that Halo is already annualized with filler games in-between the big ones.

God no... We need breathing room people... Having annual releases = franchise fatigue = lower sales in the long run

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Can we not post everything these guys post? This is getting retarded.

Not to mention that all of it is somewhat negative for MS/XB1.

This really isn't helping our community.

So it's going to be like Mario. I mean Mario has a lot of other sub games other than the traditional platformers. Sports, Party, RPGs, etc. Fine by me, just pick the ones you want.

Well you can keep it going for a bit

2014 - Halo 2 HDer
2015 - Halo Xbox One 1
2016 - Halo 3 HDer
2017 - Halo Xbox One 2

Then maybe Reach + ODST? I'm not convinced about 360 to Xbox One other than Halo 3 which is such a precious game to Halo fans (okay, my Halo friend is completely obssessed by it)

I'm not sure that's the right business model. I think the "season of DLC" is a much better policy however much a hate it. I certainly don't think they can annualise main series games

I still don't believe this was a controlled leak. Why in the world would Microsoft want people to think a price cut is coming?
