Now what if that proverbial Magikarp evolves into a Gyarados this year? Wii U will do better this year; how much better? That remains to be seen.

I do not honestly see them dropping the price again. They are already for the time being losing money on every console sold, at least a little bit. Dropping the price further would cost Nintendo money, and the $50 price drop they already did last year has spurred sales.
What I DO see them doing, however, is creating a Mario Kart 8 bundle, likely next fall. Considering how well the Mario Kart Wii and DS bundles did, I think it's safe to say Nintendo sees a trend there, and will follow suit to help spur more sales.
Calling the Wii U magikarp?
just remember that magikarp evolves into Gyarados, the ultimate pokemon.

That's probably the nicest thing you've ever said about the Wii U.
You do know what magikarp evolves into, right? And it does so by simple level-up, which in the gaming industry would probably be equated to release of video games. You know, like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros U.
If the Wii U is Magikarp does that mean that it'll eventually evolve into the badass that is Gyarados?
Edit: damn beaten by 2 people.

Yup. Magikarp can actually win...

One could hope.
Global sales up, not looking better for the Wii U at all...
Saw the thread title, guessed who the OP was, 100% on target.
