Killzone Mercenary was arguably the biggest game on PlayStation Vita this year, so most assumed that the developer, Guerrilla Cambridge, would create another Vita title after. However, that may not be the case.

PSLS has uncovered several job listings that suggest the studio’s next title will come to a Sony home console, presumably PS4. A listing for Senior Environment Artist says that applicants must be able to “Demonstrate PS3/PS4 quality texturing (diffuse, normal and specular maps),” continuing:

You have development experience on recent AAA console games.

A listing for an Environment Artist echoes the above, adding that it would be beneficial if applicants “have development experience on console games.” Interestingly, another listing, this time for Senior Graphics Programmer, describes the game as “a major future project.”

Now, before anyone jumps to any conclusions, it’s worth looking at the background of the studio, and Sony’s UK presence. Guerrilla Cambridge is a relatively small developer compared to some of Sony’s teams, but it is always possible that they could be working on multiple projects, from PS4 to PS Vita. Sony also sadly closed down Sony Liverpool, who were rumored to be 18 months into development of a PS4 WipEout title and something akin to Splinter Cell. It’s conceivable that one of those projects still lives, with Guerrilla Cambridge continuing from where Liverpool left off. Finally, with Netherlands-based Guerrilla Games creating a new IP, it could be that the Cambridge studio has taken over the franchise for the future.

lol exactly what i said to myself XD i dont understand sony, if they dont want to bother making games for the vita, why on earth did they make the handheld? i understand sony wants to make their first party devs stronger and grow them. but why make the Vita if they want all their devs to be AAA console devs?

In my opinion, after the many first party flops (too many to list) and the little increase in hardware, Sony decided that it's not worth the investment. They don't want to discontinue the console, because of the uproar and loss of brand loyalty. I think as things are now they're making a profit from all the hardcore gamers, who may be few, but buy a lot of games.

In Japan, there are enough big 3rd party developers making games for it and it does have a future there. So, in Japan they're still making games for it. There's no point for them to make big AAA games for vita in the west considering how little they affect hardware. The sales of Tearaway and Killzone are a slap in the face as far as Sony is concerned. They're relying on indie developers in the west who can make a small profit from releasing games on the vita and Sony at the same time makes a small profit as well. At this point the psvita is an afterthought for Sony and I don't see how anyone could blame them after the effort they've put to save the system.

Two teams? Or heavy vita integration? Or maybe i'm expecting to much?

Well not matter what they make in the future, they will always remain in the annals of history as the first dev team that made a true handheld FPS

Spread your wings guys, and best of luck

Well, one of their 1st party studios did just release a critically acclaimed title in Tearaway.  Also, with the launch of the PS4, it's understandable where their game development focus is right now.  Additionally, Sony can publish 1st party titles without 1st party studios working on them.  The two God of War games for the PSP were develpped by Ready At Dawn, a 2nd party studio.  If you're Sony, you HAVE to prioritize the PS4 right now.  If I were them, I would do the same and have all the 1st party studios work on PS4 games, and then contract 2nd party and 3rd party studios to work on exclusives for the Vita.  Lastly, I would work on financing localizations of the many great Japanese Vita games.  Bringing games like God Eater 2 or Tales of Innocence over to the West would bolster the library of exclusive games without the cost or risk of funding the development of a brand new game.

I'm guessing Sony is waiting to see how well PS4 sales boost Vita sales, before they invest much into big title for the handheld. They may just choose to make most games cross-buy and rely on remote play to help push Vita. Well, at least outside of Japan. They still seem to be getting a few titles from 3rd parties.

yay ps4!

boo ps vita..

...hard to blame son though. vita is dead.
