Lol at the 70% saying Wii U will outsell the Gamecube. It will never outsell the Gamecube and I knew it from the beginning. Wii U is most likely the worst console ever made, it caters to a 20 million install base at the most, it's overpriced, a lot more expensive than the Gamecube was, It's selling at a loss unlike the Gamecube, it has the worst third party support ever, it has no killer game, weak hardware specs and an oversized, overpriced and useless gamepad. Give me one good reason to buy and I'll buy it, but there no reasons.

Not sure why you're going through all this trouble to find all these old threads to bash the Wii U, but okay.

It is an undisputable fact that the Wii U has sold horribly, and Nintendo has made mistakes with it, however I don't believe sales equate to it being the worst console ever made, evident from the fact it does have a lot of great games and millions who were happy with their purchase. In addition, things like power shouldn't be a factor in it, since fantastic games can still be made, which has been the case. However, you are of course entitled to your own opinion.

Going on a bumping spree I see. Not sure if that's allowed so I'd be careful with that.

Also yes the Wii U sold terribly but that does not mean it lacks great games.

With similar ( and vindictive I can say ) comments, which could be deemed as  offensive!  Playing with fire...

@ Rustynail, you repeat that again! Wii u stopped being sold at a loss in 2014...  And yeah loss was  owing to the costly tablet controller, and probably not outselling gc is essentially because of being overpriced/expensive and haven't gotten any price drop, unlike gc which got two huge ones, one in 2002 and another one in 2003  which had a huge effect, mainly in the USA!   it sold the 60% of its lt sales then but after it collapsed compared to these two years ( 199 ->149 -> 99 ) but despite the price cuts it still made a lot of money since it was extremely cheap to manufacture! The respective situation with wii u would be 299->249->199, howbeit gamepad must be still preventing the price drops, because profits will be tiny in the first case and non-existant in the second  one!

If you care, Wii u vs GC gap is 5.7m, of which 670k is coming from Japan, the 730k from other ( that includes Europe ), and the last 4.3m from the Americas!

Gap is very small in Europe and Japan, especially when taking gc price drops into acount!

I don't think so.

I've heard of many who was unsatisfied with it getting so few games and many have probably sold it. It doesn't have as many good games as it should have. I loved the Gamecube, but the Wii U is far worse and it shouldn't sell as much. The Gamecube had many more great games and it had the Gameboy Player which extended its library by thousands of games. If you're gonna sell a stationary console you need to cater to the masses, but they've done a bad job. They didn't completely cater to the masses with the Gamecube and I was satisfied, but at least it did have a lot more third party support and it get plenty of new, old and interesting games/franchises, that were more interesting to me than the games on the PS2, both from first party and third parties. Actually I would say even the Virtual Boy, which I have, had killer games including Wario Land, Teleroboxer, Jack Bros, Faceball and Bound High. Nintendo have failed to give people a reason to buy the Wii U. There's actually no game on the Wii U as much interesting to me as Teleroboxer or Wario Land that would make me buy it. I know that  there all those old franchises on the Wii U like Smash Bros, Mario Kart or Zelda, but I'm tired of those and have no interest in playing those old franchises again and they've been milking the hell out of those games. I want something new and interesting. There are Splatoon or Wonderful 101, but that's not enough, one or two games won't justify a purchace.

Hardware specs are an important and essential factor in buying a console, that's the main reason people are buying PS4 consoles instead of Xbox One consoles.

Seriously though, even the Virtual Boy was going to get more third party support and more interesting games than the Wii U, but it got discontinued so they cancelled them all.

Back in December 2013 I'm pretty sure I was in the yes camp, because I could not coceive of a reality where Wii U sells less than 20 million in the generation immediately following Wii. I knew there was no chance of it coming close to Wii, but there is a huge gap between 20 million and 100 million and I was sure Wii U would fit in there somewhere.

It shows that Nintendo really badly failed with Wii U. It's definitely the biggest ever 1 generation collapse of a console brand at least since Nintendo released its first home console.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If I had made a prediction in this thread back when it was made I would of said Wii U would outsell the Gamecube, doesn't seem very likely at this point though.

It didn't seem likely, there were several reasons for that not happening, a lot more reasons to not buy it compared with Gamecube. Pachter was right all the way. Back in that time, he said the Wii U wouldn't sell anymore than 30 million and I agreed with him. I know that the Wii sold 100 million consoles, but the Wii U seems to be following a pattern and every Nintendo console seems to be selling at a decrease and if they keep going that route and don't change their strategy, then it will likely be their last stationary console, if not the NX is, although it's likely not even a next gen stationary console and will have very low third party support outside of Japan, unless the new CEO will do things differently than Iwata but the NX was Iwata's idea and is probably just another gimmick that will sell like the Wii U. Nintendo are known for not catering to the masses or having hardware that is competitive, it seems unlikely that the NX sell a lot better than the Gamecube or N64, and I could predict a flop because their marketing so far has been terrible, there are only 9 months till its release yet we still know nothing about it and they won't show it at E3 unlike the Wii which we knew a lot about already 1½ before its release.
