Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation 4 Selling Around 240-250k Units Weekly, Insider Assures

i dont get how this means the ps2 era is back. 240-250k a week is worse than the ps2 era during the holidays.

Well, first of all your facts are incorrect.  The PS2 sold 500K units on it's first day, and sold 1.3m by the end of 2000.  Sony only planned on shipping 3 million units by the end of March 2001, which is 2 million lower than Sony's SALES projections for the PS4, in the same timeframe.

That having been said, there's absolutely no reason to conclude from less than 2 months of sales, anything about hardware lifetime sales, but, it is encouraging to see the system selling so well, the possibility of it reaching or surpassing the PS2's lifetime sales is questionable at best, since there's actual competition (whether people consider platform B, C, D etc... competition or not) for the machine, with their own franchises, and serious financial backing that in some cases Sony cannot match.

Still, it's tracking far ahead of the PS2's early sales, so that's a great thing, and indicative of how much gaming has grown in 13 years.

Just to be fair the bird just said the 2nd Week of December sales... not every week of December

I'd have to say the 3rd week must have been pretty good for Sony, too.  That's when Amazon got that large shipment of PS4s.  It's now #6 on the Bestsellers of the year, where it was #8 before.  It also includes the 15th, the day Walmart's largest shipment came in.

that's pretty bad.. considering they sold a million in a day.. and now they are down to 50k a day?

just because of stock issues..

You expect them to have launch day sales everyday?

I see thuway is still banned from NeoGaf.

Im sure the ps4 is selling very well bit 250 a week for us only really isnt possible at this point. Sony has already said they are only capable of shipping 1 million consoles world wide every month so you can do the math it doesn't add up.

But as a worldwide number it is more realistic.

Also, is this the same guy who claimed the now debunked xbone production problems? If it is we can safely say this guy is a nobody.

PS2 era is back? In your dreams. Call me when it hits 100m.

Who are you and why do we care to call you for anything?

It´s just a figure of speach, boy.

Calling people names now, huh? The typical behaviour for someone like you when you have no argument it seems.

''PS2 era is back'' is also a figure of speech for us gamers and it refers to the console doing gang busters. It doesn't have to sell a 100 million right away, it will get there in time.

Is 'Call me when it hits 100m' even a figure of speech?  As is my understanding of the definition, that doesn't qualify.

"Call me when..." is certainly a figure of speech. It can be used more or less any time you are skeptical about a claim someone has made. E.g. "I believe aliens have been abducting humans for expediments." "Yeah? Call me when you wake up with a sore arse from being probed."

I don't know about PS2 era just yet. Let's at least see how it does in the slower parts of the year before we go claiming uber domination. Personally I think we're facing a generation with lower sales than last, possibly something closer to 6th gen only with xb one taking more market share than oxb. PS4 100million max with another 100 million or so split between xb one and Wii U is what I reckon.

Thanks for clearing that up heh, though I would argue that the second the PS4 hits 100m, it will no longer be a figure of speech as the person he was responding to will undoubtedly come back and point it out, thus breaking the non-literal 'call me when'. *chuckle*  Splitting hairs though, I know ;)

So far, according to numbers (with regards to the PS2 era), the PS4 has already outsold the PS2's first 4 months on sale (Nov-March 2000).  So, in that sense it's even better than the PS2 era.  We'll see if they can keep current pace, though, supply appears to be holding it back right now.  And I'm certainly not 'calling it' for Sony yet.  Sony's made screwups in the past, as Microsoft has done...well, for much of this generation.  There's no reason to believe that they aren't capable of messing up their money machine.
