Forums - Gaming Discussion - John Carmack: 360 and PS3 were 'far from tapped out'

I think there was more we could have gotten out of PS3/360 and MGSV will show this. The problem is that it would probably cost average studios way to much to reach the HD Twin's full potential. They could probably go Super Saiyan II if they were pushed hard enough.

Regarding you, your knowledge and your attitude against other people and their work: nothing.

I'm serious. Last time I checked this was an early title so I don't what your point is. I'm pretty sure that there are games on the PS2s later lifespan that looked better.

Looks like PS4 and XB1 will be maxing out sooner than PS3/360! OMG!!

Yeah guys, Fallout 4 might even have towns with 6 people instead of 5 this time around if its cross gen with some good optimization. And ps3 owners should only get drops to 2fps a second instead of 0! GOTY

Last gen forever!

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

But we had studios who could afford to sink massive amounts of time, money, manpower, resources, and some of the most talented developers in the world into pushing them, and did so. No other consoles in history have had as much invested in pushing their chipset as PS3 and 360.

Games like Beyond 2 souls, God of War Ascension, Halo 4, and The Last of Us squeezed them to their breaking point.

Of course you don't and this is obvious in the whole thread. Pemalite tried to help you understand but it was of no use.

The Wii could run Crysis on max settings but nobody made the effort.

Side note: I don't know why people think The Last of Us looks good.  It doesn't, aside from character models.

It does show the PS3's age, but on a technical level its lighting and animation are very, very advanced for 2006 hardware. And it should be; one of the most technically talented devs on earth made it with 3 prior games' worth of experience with the hardware.

Thing is, most people don't understand the difference between something good looking and something very special/advanced on a technical level.

Point taken.  But I think Tomb Raider, Beyond Two Souls, and the upcoming Metal Gear looked fantastic.  I really think The Last of Us looks worse than God of War 3 and Uncharted 3.  Not a bad game but not a graphical powerhouse. Animation was great, though.
